The city of Fitchburg was founded in 1865 and quickly grew into one of the most important cities in Wisconsin. In 1916, the city merged with the towns of East Troy and West Troy to form a new city named after President Woodrow Wilson.

Fitchburg is located on the western border of Wisconsin and Michigan. Fitchburg was platted in 1836 by Caulfield and Tyler as part of the Town of Fitchburgh (later renamed Green Bay). The first settler arrived in 1837 and named it after Philadelphia-based banker George Fitch. The town was renamed to its present name in 1881 when it became part of Green Bay. The townsite was surveyed in 1836 by James J. Macdonald, who had come from Kingston, Ontario with his brother John Macdonald to survey land for a fur trade post at what is now Wausau. When this post disbanded in 1840, James J. Macdonald continued surveys for another company that would develop the area into a township: Leech & Weller Surveying and Land Company under which he operated until his death in 1850. This company surveyed much of what is now Winnebago County including Fitchburgh Township; well known members include Daniel Webster and Salmon Peebles When Green Bay formed as an early county government in 1848, it included all of Winnebago County except for two small pieces – Appleton County (northwest corner) and Kossuth County (southwest corner). In order to provide better transportation connections between these two areas, Green Bay appropriated money from its general fund to purchase land west of its current city limits – including most of what is now Fitchburg Township – making it one piece within Green Bay county government while leaving Appleton and Kossuth counties separate jurisdictions In 1870, when Milwaukee cable car service began running between Milwaukee and Chicago via Racine(), parts of east-central Wisconsin were connected by railroads with new communities such as West Allis (now Wausau), Janesville, Menomonee Falls (now Oshkosh), Racine, La Crosse et al… This period saw rapid growth not just for eastern Wisconsin but also for central Minnesota where railroads reached far beyond downtown Minneapolis/Saint Paul . By 1870s many people had left rural life behind to live near major cities like Milwaukee or Chicago’s suburbs In 1907 there were only 5 houses total hereabouts according to Mr Gassaway but since then we have seen an increase especially due to our local school system

Fitchburg, Wisconsin is a small town in the northern region of Wisconsin. It was founded by James Fitch in 1836 and became a city in 1907. The population was 21,463 at the 2010 census. The townsite that now makes up Fitchburg was first settled by fur traders from Quebec in the early 1800s. The town was named for Colonel Augustus Cushing, who donated land to the town in 1836. In 1907, it merged with nearby Appleton to form one city. Fitchburg's economy has always been based on agriculture; its primary crops are corn, wheat, and soybeans. The city also manufactures items such as rubber boots and bedsheets. A number of businesses have been located here since 2007 when the city opened its doors to all businesses except liquor stores. There are several museums located within or around the city limits: the Milwaukee County Historical Society Museum (opened in 1914), Capitol Building Museum (opened in 1925), and Rural Life Museum (opened in 1988). There are also a few sports stadiums within or around Fitchburg: TD Ameritrade Park (home of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team) and Waukesha County Stadium (home of the WisconSaw basketball team).
