Fitchburg is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located in the Driftless Lakes region of the Midwest. The population was 7,821 at the 2010 census. Fitchburg is one of five towns in Green Bay County that are part of the Town of Appleton and City of Appleton Combined Statistical Area (CSA). Fitchburg was founded on December 12, 1851, by Reuben Dickey and his wife Anna Maria. The first post office was established in Fitchburg on January 6, 1852. It remained open until it was discontinued on October 14, 1890. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources and its location near the east-west rail lines connecting Chicago with Milwaukee and St Pauls Minnesota. The lumber industry dominated development in Fitchburg during its early years; over half of all employment in the community came from this activity before World War II when other industries such as fishing and agriculture took off. By 1960, however, manufacturing had become predominant with many businesses being built within walking distance or less than a mile from their downtown locations. Today there are several remaining mills active in the community including Slinger Paper Company which manufactures paper products such as envelopes and checkbooks; United Paper Products which makes corrugated cardboard boxes; Hinterland Lumber Company which produces cedar plank flooring; Plate Glass Company which makes window frames; and Diamond Glass Works which manufactures crystal glassware for both retail outlets and fine dining restaurants around the country. Finchburgh also contains several significant cultural institutions including: Fitchburgh Museum (which contains local history artifacts dating back to 1851), Appleton Legion Hall (a replica of an original 19th century building), Appleton Community Library (dedicated to serving citizens since 1903), Appleton Methodist Church (the largest Protestant church in Wisconsin) as well as several smaller churches affiliated with various denominations including Lutheranism, Pentecostalism, Baptist pastor Bob Hilty's Second Great Awakening Episcopal congregation who operate Camp Crystal Lake adjacent to Memorial Stadium where high school football games are played each year for students ages 10-17 across three days starting Friday night late into Saturday morning

Fitchburg was a small town located in the northwestern part of Wisconsin, in Door County. It was founded by George Fitch and his family in 1836. The town grew rapidly due to its lumber industry, which developed during the late 19th century. In 1924, Fitchburg became a city.
Fitchburg was platted in 1836, and named for General Nathaniel Fitch. The town grew rapidly during the early days of the Wisconsin Territory, and by 1847 it had a population of over 1,500. In 1855, the townsite was ceded to Green Bay, WI by the United States government as part of the Adams-Onion Purchase. Fitchburg gradually lost its importance after Green Bay became an important commercial center. However, it continued to be a popular tourist spot until the late 19th century.
