It is located on the west side of the Midwestern town of Fitchburg, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Milwaukee and 30 miles (48 km) north of Chicago. Fitchburg was first settled by German immigrants in 1835 and named after Friedrich Wilhelm Fuchs, a German immigrant who had founded a fur trading post in that area some years earlier. After becoming part of the United States in 1795, it became one of its original 24 counties. In 1836, it was renamed for Daniel Webster because he was then Secretary at War under President James K. Polk. In 1853, John Diefenbaker became president and ordered the displacement of all Native Americans from what is now Wisconsin except for those living on land used for farming or hunting rights – an order that led to much conflict between settlers and local Native American nations over land ownership and trade rights

Fitchburg, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is located in the Iron County seat of Fitchburg and has a population of 569 as of the 2010 census. The community was named for James Fitch, an early settler. In 1873, Fitchburg established a post office and began to grow as a farming community. A local millinery shop became important in the community's growth and remained active until 1954. Today, Fitchburg is home to several businesses and two high schools, both founded in the 1960s. FITCHBURG HISTORY James Fitch arrived at what is now Fitchburg on July 4, 1800 from Albany, New York with his family after spending three years traveling through western Pennsylvania looking for land to settle on. On December 10th, 1800 he purchased 640 acres (252 ha) of land from Adam Eastman for $25 per acre ($3 per sq ft). When his purchase was complete he moved his family into what is now known as "The Log Cabin" which still stands today on the north side of town near where Main Street meets US Highway 12 (Old Route 3). At that time there were no roads or other amenities within walking distance so James built himself a sawmill and gristmill which he operated alone until 1819 when he partnered with John Fellows to form the first flour mill in this area (Fellows Mill & Paper Mills hereafter). In 1821 James donated 1/4 acre (0.30 ha) of his property northwest corner of present day First Avenue and Hamilton Street to establish what would become Roman Catholic Cathedral School – one of only six such institutions inIron County at that time! Additionally James erected a log church–the first stone structure erected in this area –On January 15th 1824 at 2 pm by Rev Samuel Mosely who served as pastor at The Log Cabin until 1830 when Rev John Karr took over duties; eventually becoming bishopric-level administrator! Only four years later did Rome’s cathedral school move into its current location across First Avenue from present day High School! Unfortunately due to unavailability or floods during severe weather events all but one building on original campus burned down between 1840-1850 including Karr Chapel which remains standing today! However excellent stained glass windows survived resulting in reconstruction starting under new leadership beginning with Father Gabriel Nevin whose work continued until 1955 resulting finally in restoration starting around 1990 AD! This project included installation Of Our Lady Of Grace window And All Souls Window . It should be noted that prior efforts were made by Father Nevin starting circa 1920 AD but these projects never materialized because funding could not be obtained . Finally FrNevin retired effective June 30th 1995 following 25 years ministry !! After lengthy deliberations it was decided that formal education for laymen should begin instead concurrently offering classes for married women also!! As part of this process Bishop Hobart appointed Father Daniel Sweeting SJ as interim rector pending appointment by Bishop Hobart himself sometime thereafter!!!!!!!!!!!!! Outstanding work accomplished during those pioneering days especially given limited resources !!!!!
Fitchburg, Wisconsin was founded in 1847 and named for Isaac Fitch. The town was initially a part of the Winnebago County, but it was organized as a separate municipality in 1853. In 1870, Fitchburg became the capital of Wisconsin Territory. The city boundaries were revised in 1898, and it became an incorporated city on November 3, 1898.
