Gun Parts History in Fitchburg, Wisconsin began with the manufacture of pistols by Captain John Fitzpatrick and his son, John Fitzpatrick II. In 1847, the company became known as Fitzpatrick Firearms Manufacturing Company. In 1851, Captain John Fitzpatrick III sold the business to his brother-in-law, Jacob Wetmore. The company became known as Wetmore Firearms Manufacturing Company. From 1875 until 1915, the company was controlled by Ewing Armour & Company. from 1915 until 1949 it was under the ownership of American Arms Corporation.In 1949 American Arms Corporation merged with National Industries Incorporated to form National Ammunition & Munitions Corporation (NAMC). NAMC then merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Incorporated (Winchester) to form The Winchester Group LLC in 2011.

The first store opened in then called Town Hall Square; it functioned until 1888 when it moved to its present location at 116 Washington Street. In 1870–71, John Davenport built a large sawmill and grist mill at what is now Main Street and N streets NW; these mills were destroyed by fire on December 15th, 1870 but were rebuilt within weeks and continued to produce flour until they closed in 1902–03 due to competition from larger mills near Milwaukee The City Council met for the first time on December 1st 1840 with 11 members being elected at large with Samuel Herring serving as Mayor In 1850s there were several outbreaks of cholera which impacted both men and women especially during winter months so Mayor Herring ordered construction of brick wall around town center to keep out rodents which caused many epidemics over time FITCHBURG STATE UNIVERSITY WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1945 SUCH AS A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IT PROVIDES EDUCATION FROM THE EARLY YEARS UP TO DOCTORATE LEVEL WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDIES ALSO OFFERED . NOW THERE ARE OVER 60 CAMPUSES WITH ABOUT 28 HOUSES AND NEARLY 25 LIBRARY FACILITIES .

In 1854, the town was renamed for John Nye, United States Senator from Wisconsin. The town's first mayor was J.E.B. Stuart and its first recorder was A.D. Cook. In 1865, Fitchburg became a city and it has since grown to become one of the largest cities in Wisconsin with over 100,000 residents as of 2018
