De Pere is a small town located in the state of Wisconsin, and it has been home to some of the most famous spotters in history. One of these famous spotters was John James Audubon.audubon was an American ornithologist and artist who made a significant impact on nature conservation and bird watching. His work included creating one of the first public collections of birds in America, as well as publishing important works on hunting and birdwatching. In 1827, Audubon purchased land near De Pere for $2 per acre. He began developing this land into what is now known as Audubon Park. The park currently contains over 5,000 acres of forested terrain that provides plenty of opportunities for people to see various types of wildlife including deer, elk, hawks, owls, pigeons, and other birds. There are also several hiking trails that allow visitors to experience all sorts of different landscapes while exploring this beautiful park.

It was used by Giovanni Battista Poggio in 1798 to observe supernova explosions as they occurred around Earth.
De Pere, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the seat of La Crosse County. The population was 16,812 at the 2010 census., making it the largest community in La Crosse County by population. It is also one of two communities lying within Milwaukee County, together with Racine. The first people to inhabit what is now De Pere were the Potawatomi from Illinois. The first European settlers arrived in 1836 when Isaac Brock bought land east of De Pere for $2,000 (). He built a cabin on his farm and named it "Brock's Cabin". In 1837, John Atherton surveyed a plat of land that would become De Pere Township. He purchased 8 acres (3 ha) from Abraham Davenport for $20 () and named it "Davenport Prairie". Atherton donated 4 more acres (1 ha) to the town in 1839 as part of a Townshend donation. The town was incorporated on November 5, 1840 as "De Pere", after James Worthy De Pere (1811-1880), an early settler and director of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad (). On December 3, 1850, local farmers met to create a town board whose main responsibility was to provide housing for new settlers and provide goods and services needed by them while they awaited title deeds or other documentation confirming their residency in De Pere Township (). On January 1, 1861 (), following consolidation of La Crosse County with Milwaukee County, Depere became one of eleven towns within that county when its boundaries were enlarged based on population growth rates elsewhere within Milwaukee County (). The remaining ten towns formedMilwaukee County Boroughs on January 1, 1971 (). In 1954-1955 voters in adjacent Racine passed a resolution asking United States President Dwight Eisenhower to donate land between Racine Hills Road near downtown Racine and Ridgebrook Drive to be used as an open air recreation area known as Eisenhower National Forest (). This area would become known as Park Westwood . In 1957 residents voted not to annex neighboring Appleton into Depere but did annex Appleton into Milwaukee due to opposition from village president Harry Laughlin who felt that annexation would have posed too much competition for his village's limited resources. As part of this process several streets were renamed including Main Street which has been since replaced by I-94E towards Green Bay
De Pere was founded by decree of the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in 1838 as a town on the "Pere Marquette" land grant. De Pere's first post office opened in 1840. The first store and buildings were built in 1841. The town was named for John Pierpont de Pere, the Secretary of War for the State of Wisconsin during the early 1800s. In 1847, De Pere had its first election as a city and it has held that status ever since.
