The population of De Pere was 7,827 at the 2010 census. Captain John De Pere’s original settler community was called "Plymouth" because it lay on the mouth of the River La Crosse. In 1835, Captain De Pere and his family moved to what is now known as downtown De Pere and started to grow corn and market goods from their farmstead. They also built a sawmill which continued operation until 1888. In 1836, Captain John De Pere married Anne Antoinette Hegarty and they began building a house on the east side of Main Street in Plymouth. The couple had six children: three boys (John, Charles Greenleaf, and Ebenezer), two girls (Fannie and Abigail), and one girl (Maria). In 1840, they bought landlot #2 on Lake Michigan shoreline for $5 per acre. This lot became known as "The Gables". In 1840-1841, Captain John De Pere organized a local farmers' association which met monthly at his home to discuss issues affecting agriculture in northwestern Wisconsin Territory including price supports being given to wheat growers by U.S. Government officials; lack of production due to bad harvests; high rates charged for transportation services needed for shipments to Chicago; etc. The organization soon became successful enough that it sent representatives to various government hearings regarding matters affecting agriculture in northwest Wisconsin Territory during early 41st Congresses - these hearings led finally to passage of the Packers Act of 1886 which created compulsory licensing requirements for grain handlers throughout most of northeastern United States with some exceptions such as Canada where free trade rules applied . However this act did not apply uniformly throughout northwest United States as different counties/territories had their own restrictions or exemptions specific to their own agricultural industries – see below for more detailed history about this event . On July 15th 1861,- after much debate within our society over an issue concerning slavery— five men from Plymouth took public exception against “the Missouri Compromise” outlawing slavery in all territories acquired under that compromise while still remaining residents there—- having been resident there since 1830—they proclaimed themselves slaves again forevermore! What followed were days full of excitement throughout our great city as people came out into every street corner preaching abolitionism! Many speeches were delivered before City Council meetings urging them eitherto support us unconditionally or leave immediately—- but no decision was ever made—- until December when we heard through the newspapers that Abraham Lincoln had been elected President!! Of course we rejoiced right alongside all those others who felt like they could finally do something about THEIR situation! After election day we went back inside our beautiful cityhome feeling like millionaires!!! We couldn’t have been more wrong!!!!!!!!! Our city lost many citizens during those tumultuous days leading up tounDRue November 4th 1865 when Union troops burned down our beautiful old brick courthouse—- leaving us without any legal recourse whatsoever….

De Pere, Wisconsin was founded in 1855 by John De Pere and his wife, Mary. The town grew quickly due to its location near the Superior River and its access to transportation. In the early years of the town's existence, it was a small farming community with few buildings other than animal pens and a fording place for the river. The first store in De Pere opened in 1865. By 1870, the population had grown to around 100 inhabitants and the town started to develop into a larger community with more buildings. In 1872, De Pere became an incorporated village after vote by residents. In 1908, De Pere joined Milwaukee County as part of that county's merger with Racine County. The following year saw the opening of its first hospital in downtown De Pere. After World War II ended,DePere began experiencing growth as an industrial center due to its proximity to Moller Paper Company and other companies that produced goods for export. This growth led to new development in downtown De Pere including several high-rise buildings and multiple shopping malls throughout the late 20th century and into the 21st century
