De Pere, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin that was founded in 1834. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dane County and has a sister city relationship with Bruges, Belgium. The first settlers to De Pere were Daniel Gorham and his family who arrived in 1835. They built a log cabin on the west side of present-day Main Street and started to farm the land around it. The first post office was established in 1836, and by 1840, there were 15 people living at De Pere with one store and one blacksmith shop. In 1851, three brothers—Moses Sorensen, John Hrdy and Ole Hanson—organized Menominee County into which De Pere would be placed within two years later when it was organized as Dane County effective January 1st, 1854 In 1861–1865 Union soldiers camps were set up along the river near present-day town limits while General Grant's army moved through central Wisconsin during his invasion of Iowa in 1862-63 In 1865-1868 De Pere had its own school system which operated until 1930 when it merged with Racine public schools In 1870s society began moving away from agricultural life towards an industrialization process which led to loss of jobs for locals during World War I; however by 1920 most residents still lived off their farms From 1925 until 1957 De Pere had its own radio station KFJZ (1060 kHz) licensed from Milwaukee but actually transmitter located just east of town on US 20/N 6th St

Since then, it has remained inactive and is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
