Holsters have been around for centuries, and De Pere, Wisconsin is home to one of the oldest holster manufacturers in the United States. The De Pere Pistol Holster Company was founded in 1892 by John S. Holman and his son, Stanley. The company became well known for its high-quality pistols holsters, which have been used by law enforcement officers throughout the United States. In 1921, the company merged with the Waukesha Pistol Holster Company to form the present-day Waukesha Pistol Holster Company.
De Pere is a small town in the northern Wisconsin region. The population was 5,032 at the 2010 census. It is located in Trempealeau County. The town was founded in 1854 by John De Pere, an immigrant from Ireland. The first post office was established in 1855 and the first store opened in 1857. In 1861, De Pere became the county seat of Trempealeau County. The village of De Pere was platted on February 15, 1870 by J.W. Rankin and Wm Hickey as part of a deal that led to the creation of Trempealeau County and incorporation of Racine Township into it on March 3, 1870. Deregulation of railroads during the 1930s increased production and trade within De Pere, which helped its economy grow rapidly until World War II when other economic factors caused it to decline again. The population peaked at 9,711 in 1960 but decreased steadily over the next decade before reaching 6,061 at the 2000 census; since then it has slowly grown again throughout most of its history despite occasional downturns due to weather or other factors

One of the earliest holster companies was Holsteries of London, which began manufacturing holsters in 1792. The first modern holster design was created by George Washington in 1795. In 1873, Colt Firearms Company started making handguns in what is now Hartford, Connecticut. Throughout the 19th century, many different types of holsters were developed and produced including Western guns such as Winchester Repeating Arms and Remington Rand rifles; Eastern European pistols such as Bulgarian pistols; and sporting shotguns like Browning Hi-Power rifles. During World War I (1914-18), holster manufacturers turned their attention to creating military issue devices for troops on the battlefield. A number of companies developed extensive production lines for handgun holsters specifically designed for use with carbines, machineguns, artilleryights, tanks and other armored vehicles. Many American manufacturers spawned subsidiaries or joint ventures throughout the war years to produce various products related to warfare including cavalry riding gear (Haviland saddles), explosives equipment (Binney's mantle grenades) and ammunition belts ( BELTZ). After World War I ended there was an immense demand for newHolster Designers but very few new advances were made in pistol Holster Technology during this time period due largely to lack of funding from government agencies or private enterprise interests alike
The first holster was designed for a rifle and was called the "Belt Holster." The belt holster allowed for the user to wear a belt at all times while carrying their firearm. This type of holster is still in use today. One of the earliest handguns to be stocked with a holstered gun was the Colt .45 ACP. This handgun featured an attached derringer that could be drawn without having to take off the safety. This also made it easy to fire when not wearing a coat or scarf because there would be no risk of hitting oneself on the weapon's stock.
De Pere, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 8,812 at the 2010 census, making it the largest community in Racine County. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The name De Pere comes from French and means "in the forest." The first settler in this area was Pierre Marquette who arrived in 1765 and named his new land Prairie du Chien after his home city of Québec City, Canada. The first post office in De Pere was established in 1836, and mail service to that community began operations on September 15, 1837. In 1851, a sawmill owners' association founded the De Pere Manufacturing Company which became one of the most successful small businesses in Milwaukee County history. With its milling capabilities and location near Waukesha and Racine counties' major waterways, De Pere became an important transportation hub for settlers moving into these regions during this time period. In 1907-08, six miles north of downtown De Pere on US-41 (then known as State Highway 10) was located what is now Racine Mall which served as a center for retail shopping for residents of nearby towns such as Mukwonago and Maytag Heights until it closed its doors in 1990 following a fire that destroyed much of its structure including its arcade games room and numerous other business buildings within months of each other
