In 1838, John Brown designed his “Arkansas Rifle” which was able to shot small rounds out of a .22 caliber target at 50 feet (15 meters). This weapon helped start the Second Civil War. After the war, gun manufacturers started producing more realistic weapons such as handguns and rifles with sights so people could better aim them. People continue to enjoy shooting target plastic objects today even though they may not be traditional firearms. De Pere was the site of the world’s first outdoor rifle match, which took place on July 4,1876. The area now known as downtown De Pere was developed around this time and contains many of the city’s oldest buildings including the old courthouse and jail.
De Pere is a town in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Moline metropolitan area. The town is located on the east side of the Mississippi River, about halfway between Green Bay and Milwaukee. It was founded in 1852 by Danish immigrants as a farming community called "Næsby". The first settlers were named Larsen and his family, who arrived from Sverige on July 3, 1851. In 1854, John Christiansen bought land in De Pere and laid out a township according to Swedish tradition: each settler received one acre (0.40 hectare). Christianityen also built the first schoolhouse in De Pere. A gristmill was built soon after by John Pohlman and others in what became known as Pohlmans Prairie Township; it still stands today on Main Street near Old German Baptist Church. In 1865, Danish immigrant Ole Olsen established an agricultural store and post office in what is now Norwegian Village; this building still stands today next to North Park Elementary School. That same year saw the founding of the First Methodist Episcopal Church with services being held at a barn on Maple street until 1870 when a larger church was completed across Elm Street from present day Academy High School. In 1875-76 , another group of immigrants arrived from Sweden with their families: Andersson brothers Cederfors (born 1792), Erik Jonsson (born 1800), Gustaf Larsson (1810), Johan Christophersen (1812) all landed at Pier One just west of De Pere Landing where they erected two small sheds which served as their homes for several years before being moved inland to farm land that they acquired northwest of town along US Highway 6th Avenue/today's US Highway 9th Avenue East near present day Pioneer Cemetery/Milwaukee County Historical Museum complex/Wisconsin State Fairgrounds complex/now home to Waukesha County Agricultural Museum). The late 1800’s brought further innovations with water power becoming available for farmers through damming up tributaries of the river belowpresent day Fonterra Dam site east of townline; this new technology allowed farmers much higher yields than prior methods such as oxcart transportation over rough terrain leading to increased prices for goods sold nationwide due to monopoly control by railroads during this time period

De Pere is a town in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire metropolitan area. The first settler in De Pere was John Fountaine in 1836. The Town of De Pere was organized on April 15, 1847 by Order of the Territorial Legislature under territorial law. The first courthouse was built in 1850 and the first post office opened on July 10, 1850. In 1870, lumbering began to become a major industry in De Pere and many sawmills were erected along the Wabash River. By 1901, there were 13 sawmills operating in De Pere. In 1902-03, deceptively named "Sheboygan Lumber" caused an outcry when it refused to carry lumber from Sheboygan Falls because its shears lacked a proper safety device such as a breaker bars; this so-called "fraudulent trade" generated much public indignation which led to passage of state legislation fixing requirements for such lumbers products. In 1906-07 aluminum smelters began operations near De Pere and soon led to an increase in population as workers seeking jobs at these new mills started commuting into town. When World War II broke out, de facto neutrality replaced actual neutrality as policy by the United States government and accordingly no American military forces were stationed within 100 miles (160 km) of either coast of Lake Michigan; however local civilians recruited soldiers for their own defense purposes during hostilities which occurred primarily between Americans and Japanese residents living on or near Dearborn Peninsula east of Milwaukee Rapids; mostly men without families who had little choice but to support their fellow citizens while war raged around them This lack of international isolationism may have been due to corporate sponsorship by JAPANESE BUSINESSES OPERATING IN MILWAUKEE REGION AT THAT TIME INCLUDING THE WOODSTOCK COMPANY - A PROVINCE OWNED AND OPERATED BY JAPANESE MEMBERS OF THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE NATIONAL CEMENT CORPORATION - OR TO BE RELATED TO AMERICAN SUPPLY COOPERATIVE PROGRAMS THAT ARE NOW WORLDWIDE
De Pere was founded in 1836 by Isaac De Pere and his wife Esther. The town is named after the nearby De Pere River. In 1851, the US Congress passed a bill recognizing the town as a county seat of Dodge County. The first courthouse was built in 1857.
