The first scopes were designed and built in the early 1800s by a group of men who called themselves the Wisconsin Telescope Company. The company was founded by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother, Jean-Baptiste Conte, in 1806. The pair started out building telescopes to help farmers look at the stars during their annual crops rotation. In 1811, they produced their first object signal telescope, which consisted of a large mirror that could be rotated to focus on an object at a desireddistance. The company continued to produce high-quality telescopes until it disbanded in 1892. The Wisconsin Telescope Company is responsible for some of the earliest examples of optical astronomy and helped lay the foundation for modern telescope design. One of its products, the conical reflector known as the “Ohio” or “Wisconsin” telescope, was used to observe Venus in 1755 and 1786. Other products from this company include the “Chequered Dome” reflecting telescope (1820), which was used to study Jupiter’s moon Io; and the “Grigoryevskii reflector” (1851), which became one of Russia’s most famous astronomical instruments.

Cudahy is a small town in the town of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The population was 5,985 at the 2000 census. It is located in the Republican Congressional District. Cudahy is also home to Rock County's only high school, Manitowoc High School. The first settler in what is now Cudahy was Johnathan Haas who arrived in 1838. He built a log cabin on the east side of the White River and named it "Haas". German Immigrants came later and founded a Lutheran congregation there which still meets today. In 1846, Lyle Sikes settled here and named his farm "Sikes". Sikes ran a sawmill and gristmill until he sold them to Julius Bickerton in 1862. Bickerton turned the mill into an flour mill that continued operation until 1967 when it became part of Bunge Corporation's fertilizer plant complex on Appleton Avenue near North Water Street. In 1868, Hermann Kapp established a post office here under the name "Kapp". Kapp operated a stagecoach line between Manitowoc and Racine before selling his business to J P Flourmiller in 1881. Flourmiller moved his flour operations from Waukesha to Cudahy after purchasing land at present-day First National Bank site on South Main Street in 1886. At that time, Cudahy had one store and three residences with about thirty residents living off agriculture including poultry, hogs, corn cribs/maize barns (for feeding animals), planting potatoes etc., all done by hand or using power tools as needed during good years or times of drought or freeze damage caused by bad weather patterns like those that occurred annually from 1896 through 1908 known as The Great Freeze of Milwaukee County Kapp Elementary School opened its doors on September 9th 1907 serving grades PK-8th along with two other schools for girls - Holy Angels Catholic School (founded 1913) which served grades Pre-Kindergarten thru 8th grade; St Joseph's Catholic School (founded 1924) for girlsgrades 9 thru 12; both schools were closed circa 1990 due largely to lack of enrollment & heavy use by neighboring schools as well as vandalism issues involving personal belongings stored inside; however current day building remains operational & serves as classrooms for local public school students while also hosting local community events such asLLama Showcase Christmas party Dec 23rd & 4th 2017

He started working on developing smaller Telescope prototypes which eventually culminated in his famous “Franklin Telescope” project in 1795-1796 which helped spur scientific advancements such as photography and microscopy during the 1800s

A store opened on Michigan Avenue near where it currently stands in 1908-09, later becoming the home of the local Chamber Of Commerce until it moved to its current location on State Road 761 in 2002-03.
