Cudahy is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Cudahy is located in the Whitesburg and Brookfield townships on the east side of the Fox River. The first settler in what is now Cudahy was David Prentice, who arrived in 1827. A post office called Cudahy was established in 1829, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. The name for what is now Cudahy originated with local Native AmericanChiefs who called it "Tanka-a-he" meaning place where there are many cedar trees or "Ka-he" meaning abundance of game (particularly deer). In 1847, Major General George Hildreth built a log cabin on land that he donated to the town for use as a public schoolhouse and storehouse. In 1850, John Fetterman founded an agricultural society which grew into a large lumber company that still operated out of his store today. In 1861, after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation became effective, African Americans were given voting rights by Congress; however this right continued to be denied to African Americans living within white controlled areas such as those around Milwaukee until well into World War II when they finally received full citizenship status under United States law. On November 3rd, 2006 during Republican Governor Scott Walker's first term as Governor of Wisconsin - following passage by both houses of his State Legislature - Act 736 becoming known as The 'Cudahy Amendment' provided full civil rights voting opportunities to all residents regardless of race or ethnicity since then over 2 decades ago!

In 1818, when Milwaukee was founded as a town on the west bank of Lake Michigan, it became one of four towns within Indiana Territory (the others being Terre Haute and Warsaw). On November 15th of that year, Indiana Territory was merged with Illinois Territory; Milwaukee continued to be an independent city under Illinois rules until May 24th of 1824 when all cities within Illinois were placed under one government control under the name “Illinois City Council” with Mayor John Prentice as its head. The first mayor of Chicago was Moses Addison whose term lasted only two months before he resigned due to financial problems caused by bad investments made by his predecessor Clark Richards. On July 1st of 1825, while still an independent city, Milwaukee joined with other nearby towns forming what would become called today's Racine County; this county would eventually grow into Northwestern Wisconsin and encompass parts of both Illinois and Wisconsin territories
