Cudahy is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,719 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dane County. The name comes from the Dakota Sioux word "kuda-hay" meaning "place where there are trees." The first permanent settler in Cudahy was John Goodrich, who arrived in 1847. Goodrich's son, Amos Goodrich, founded the village of Bloomfield in 1854. In 1865, Cudahy was incorporated as a town and named for Salmon P. Chase, then assistant secretary of state under Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War. In 1870, vote fraud led to recall of Mayor Samuel J. Fenton and his new mayor George Trimble from office by citizens angry over their handling of municipal finances; this event is known as the Fenton Riot or simply rioting because it did not result in any violent consequences until months later when businessman Fred Ayer called for an investigation into what had happened In 1875–76 William Ritchie served as acting mayor while Fenton recovered from surgery after being hit by a car while walking his dog on property owned by banker Wm Ewing (later developer). By 1880 only 2 percent of residents were white and nearly all residents were Native Americans or European immigrants descended from those colonists who had settled here some time before – most notably Swiss immigrant Isaac Hayes who had come to work on a sawmill near town in 1848 when he was just eighteen years old . In that year also Jno Hultgren began logging operations on land now within the limits of Cudahy; he would keep logs down to about twelve feet (4 m) below ground level until 1937 when he built his own mill with water power which still operates today and produces wood pellets for insulation purposes In 1905 Germans started coming to farm here via Traverse City; they raised chickens and cattle but didn’t build homes until after World War I when Norma Kapp bought some land east of town and started raising hogs which soon gave her two hundred people jobs creating what is now one of North America’s largest hog production industries The world wars caused changing patterns among these farmers – some moved away altogether while others grew corn or other grains instead due to shortages brought about by war production restrictions

The first permanent settler in what would become Cudahy was Nicholas Cudahy and his family in 1837. The community was founded as a small farmstead on the east side of the Black River. In 1875, the post office was established here and remained until it closed in 1955. A store and two blacksmiths were built here in 1876-77; they are still standing today. In 1902, George Fenton bought land at its junction with County Road W and Charlevoix Road for $2,000 to build a sawmill near present-day Appleton. The mill operated until 1943 when it burned down due to an electrical fire. During World War II, many local residents helped fight in the war effort by working at various mills or manufacturing items such as munitions or shoes for military use. After the war ended, many businesses began to reopen including a grocery store and auto parts store which remain open today as well as several othersmall businesses like automotive repair shop and cake bakery that have thrived over time too
Cudahy was founded by John Cudahy in 1846. The town began as a small farming community and developed into a larger town after the railroad arrived in the early 1850s. In 1892, Cudahy became the county seat of Calumet County.
