Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the riverside between the states of Michigan and Minnesota. The population was 5,621 at the 2010 census. Chippewa Falls is one of seventeen towns in Racine County, Wisconsin, which was created in 1836 from part of Milwaukee County. The first records of scopes being used in Chippewa Falls date back to 1795 when a Mr. Grosse filed a patent for an invention called "Aperture Glass." This early telescope consisted of two lenses with small holes through them that allowed light to enter and exit the instrument through slits on either side. In 1824, Isaac Newton patented his famous reflector telescope which featured two large mirrors placed so as to project images into space at different angles without having any obstruction between them like present day telescopes do. In 1853 Jonas Salk developedolester technology which made it possible to produce vaccines using dead animals instead of living ones and this led to Catalina Island becoming known as "Vaccination Valley". The first organized astronomy society in Chippewa Falls was started by several members of the local community in 1884 under the name "Wisconsin Academy of Sciences" but disbanded soon afterwards due to lack of support from outside sources. In 1905, an Amateur Radio Service station was licensed within amateur radio service limits by virtue of its location within Chippewa Falls proper; this marked the beginning for modern Amateur Radio activity hereabouts! The name "Chippewa Falls" may be derived from the Ojibwe word "chippe" meaning “paddle” and "wàkésá", meaning “town” or village. The current spelling was first used in 1881 when it was called Chippewa City. In 1882 the name was changed to Chippewa Falls because of high water levels in the river below Chippewa Dam which had been built by the United States government to control flooding during years of heavy rains. In 1907, lumberman James Kapp bought land near Chippewa Falls and began developing it into a town. He named his new community Kappville after himself and his two brothers who had founded Kapp Paper Company in 1904 in Racine, Wisconsin (now Racine County). By 1910, however, most of Chippewa Falls had already been abandoned due to prohibition laws that made liquor illegal throughout most of America. After World War I saw an increase in smuggling along the Great Lakes region due to Prohibitionist legislation that limited brewers' ability to sell their products outside of states that still implemented prohibitionism (such as Michigan), many businesses around Chi-Pee fell victim to this trade as well; some even closed down completely while others slowly tapered off until they were all gone by 1925. However, with the repeal of Prohibition in 1933 followed by rising prices for alcohol and stricter regulations within America's social fabric consequent thereto—the once thriving Chicago-based liquor industry withered away overnight—Chi-Pee's liquor stores reopened gradually starting around 1935 BCBG & Co., one of Chi-Pee's largest retail chains when Prohibition ended nationwide more than 25 years earlier; these stores continued operations until out competition from larger retailers greatly diminished their market share circa 1975 AD . Today only a couple remnant items remain from preProhibition days such as old shoeshine parlors known as 'Smokey Joe's'. A brewery called International Harvester started brewing beer here on October 26th 1923 and continued production until May 3rd 1945 when it closed its doors due to World War II stressors brought about by construction projects across Lake Michigan following D Day including use of enriched uranium for atomic weapons testing at Bikini Atoll - making WI one of only 2 states along with Nebraska without breweries PRODUCTION STOP PENALTIES WERE IMPOSED AGAIN IN 1945 AS A RESULT OF ENERGY CRISIS not related TO THE WAR! During this time many people emigrated here including Al Capone who ran his mafioso casino empire outta state but also many other famous personalities like Ford Frick and Jay Gould whose familiesowned grocery store complex remains active today adjacent to State Fairgrounds property ALSO CHIPPEWA FALLS HISTORIC GAS STATION WAS BUILT HERE BY JAMES KAPP IN 1907 PART OF HIS LARGER HANDSHAKE COMPANY THAT INCLUDED A Lumber Yard AND RETAIL STORES UPON CALUMET AVENUE NW BETWEEN STATE FAIRGROUNDS AND THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT BUILDING ALSO THE FIRST ELECTRICITY DEVICE BEING OWNED AND MANUFACTURED HERE!
