The name "Chippewa" may derive from two German words meaning 'two rivers' or 'shoreline'. The first reference to Chippewa Falls was printed in 1836 in a journal entry by Jedediah Morse: "On our way up we passed through this beautiful [river] town called Chippewa falls." In 1854, when federal law made it an incorporated town, residents voted to change their name to Chippeville after General Anthony Wayne's victory over British forces at Battle of Fallen Timbers. In 1867, the first post office opened in Chippeville and remained open until 1907. That year, however, it merged with nearby Pewaukee to form the present-day city of Milwaukee. In 1912, Congress created Dane County and appointed John Saylor as its first sheriff. One year later, he designated Chippeville as its county seat; this designation lasted until 1914 when Milwaukee took control again due to rural consolidation within Dane County. Although crime rates have decreased over time in Chippeville compared with other parts of Milwaukee proper (and even outside of it), they continue to be higher than those found throughout much of suburban Milwaukee – including areas such as Waukesha and Racine – which are increasingly becoming upscale suburbs that house high-income families while still maintaining some level of community activity and retail stores near major highways like I-94 or I- report Major League Baseball teams like the Brewers or Cubs are also well located close by but without any surrounding neighborhoods very similar to what you would find just outside these cities limits; However if you live in one or more inner city neighborhoods within walking distance (5 blocks) or less (in most cases) then your life is definitely improved! This has resulted in many people moving into these outer suburbs/inner cities for various reasons such as access to schools/ehealthcare/jobs etc., although there remains significant poverty and low income living patterns within core City limits

The Chippewa Falls area was part of the Wisconsin Territory until 1848, when it became a part of Illinois. In 1854, the territorial government passed a bill that established a school district in Chippewa Falls. The town developed quickly, with stores and businesses opening up soon after. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in Chippewa Falls. After Wisconsin became a state in 1896, the school district was merged into the new department of public instruction.
