It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first white people to live in what is now Chippewa Falls were German immigrants who settled there in 1845. They built a cabin on the falls and named it "Fallsborough". In 1847 they moved to a gristmill on the river that they named "Eagle Mill". In 1853 they built a log cabin on what is now State Street which became their home until 1865 when they sold it to Fenton Cottage Company. The company ran it as an inn until 1898 when it was purchased by John Ladd and his wife Emma. They operated it as an inn until 1917 when it was acquired by Mrs. Halsey Forney who kept it until her death in 1951. Mrs. Forney's husband Charles bought it from her and operated it as an agricultural store before selling it to Mr. John Minkowski in 1954. He donated it to the city of Chippewa Falls in 1957 and operates it as a motel today

Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is a town in the western part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 4,431 at the 2010 census. Chippewa Falls is located on the eastern edge of Milwaukee County and is bordered by Waukesha County to the north, Racine County to the east, and Dane County to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Chippewa Falls were French explorers in 1634-35 who noted that there was "a great waterfall" (Falls of Chippewa) between two hills near present-day downtown Chippewa Falls. A variant name for this falls was "Milwaukee Rapids". It wasn't until early 1839 when George Stephenson built a steamboat dock on the current site of downtown Chippewa Falls that General John Cushing's troops discovered an abundant supply of coal under high limestone cliffs just upstream from where they landed their boats during an expedition against Native Americans called Muskoka Expedition in 1838. The first known European settlers in what is now Chippewa Falls were Dutch colonists who arrived about 1763-64 as part of a large land grant from Marquette to various Norwegian families who had settled along Lake Superior. By 1797, most Norwegians had either left for North America or been forced out by American settlers because they believed that United States ownership of all Canada would mean forfeiture of their land grants and reservations along Lake Superior which included much of present day Wisconsin and Minnesota. In 1800, James Bradley bought 640 acres (2 km²) east sideof Fall River from Norway for $5 per acre ($100 total). He named it Prairie du Jour after his home province in Canada but soon sold it back to Norway for $10 per acre ($160 total). Bradley also donated another tract (1 km²) east sideof Fall River into formal Township form on December 12th 1847 with one mile wide border due westward from Fall River’s original boundaries as shown on modern maps (now within City limits). This township plat also shows that he reserved 2/3rds (333 acres or 25 hectares) towards future development according to surviving deeds dated November 10th 1850 which are still preserved at Friends Meeting House today! In 1854-55, three brothers named Moses Andrus opened a fur trading post northwest of present day downtown Chippewa Falls while their father operated a grist mill northeast across Main Street from today’s First National Bank building which stands today as NWS Headquarters Building #1 across street!
