Cedarburg, Wisconsin is a small town in the rural area of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Cedarburg is located in Dane County and is part of the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Cedarburg were farmers who came from eastern Canada in the early 1800s. The first post office was established here in 1836, and by 1854, Cedarburg had a sawmill and grist mill on the river. Over time, other businesses such as a carriage barn, grocery store, blacksmith shop and hotel opened up around this community; eventually it became an agricultural center with many crops like wheat, corn and soybeans being grown. In 1916 when Cedarburg incorporated as a village it had a population of 128 people; however by 2020 that number had fallen to 88 people due to various factors including shrinking industry and competition from neighboring towns which have seen their populations grow more than 5 times over since then! Cedarburg has always been home to some great residents who have helped make this place what it is today: prominent citizens like former President Ronald Reagan (who grew up just down the street from where he currently lives), Mayor Tony Evers (the current mayor) and Dr. David Auerbach are all natives of Cedarburg or have lived here for some time or longer. Cedarburg is a small town in southeastern Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,022 at the 2010 census. Cedarburg is the county seat of Hancock County and the only incorporated municipality in the county. It lies on Sturgeon River east of Green Bay and north of Rock Island. The first residents of what is now Cedarburg were Native American people who lived near the present-day town site for several hundred years before European settlement began. The first Europeans to reach what is now Cedarburg were French traders in 1642, who named it La Crosse after their trading post there. The first settler in what is now Cedarburg was Elias Cogswell, who arrived in 1795 and established a ferry service over the Sturgeon River between Green Bay and Rock Island. In 1824, John Aiken settled here with his family from North Carolina and soon started a flour mill on the riverbank near where he now lives. In 1827, Jens Jensen bought land along the river from Aiken and founded another flour mill here which still operates as part of Jens Jensen Flour Mill Company Limited today. In 1841, Isaac Sibley arrived in this area from Indiana with his family and set up a farmstead about one mile southeast of where he currently resides. Sibley later became president of Wisconson General Mercantile Exchange (WGME). He donated land to create Park Forest Cemetery which still functions as an important cemetery for those living within or nearby Cedarburg today. In 1916, Mr./Mrs.(last name unknown) did some pioneer work by putting up a schoolhouse/grange at what is now Town Hall Square back then known as Elm Street just east of current-day Main Street corner also known as Park Avenue (now located off I-94). That building still stands today serving as part of local government functions including public offices etc., since it has been completely renovated multiple times throughout its history! A post office called Cedarbury was established in 1838; it closed operations in 1851 due to lack of mail traffic. The present day Cedarburgh post office reopened on October 1st 1978 postal code 85523
