Cedarburg, Wisconsin is a town in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 569 at the 2000 census. Cedarburg is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first optical accessory store opened in Cedarburg in 1903 and it was called the Iris Glass and Photo Shop. In 1909, the store changed its name to The Optical Shop and began selling telescopes, binoculars, microscopes, astrolabes and other optical equipment. In 1932, The Optical Shop merged with Bendix Corporation to become one of the largest optical retailers in the United States. In 1957, Bendix Corporation merged with American Radio Company to become part of Westinghouse Electric Company. In 1970 Westinghouse Electric Company merged with General Electric Company to form GEICO and in 1984 GEICO merged with Pullman-Lansdowne Industries Incorporated to become Tripp-Lansdowne Industries Incorporated. In 2007 Tripp-Lansdowne Industries Incorporated was spun off from GEICO as an independent company named Littlerock Optics LLC In Cedarburg there are three major shopping streets: Main Street which runs east-west between University Avenue and Court Street; Park Place which runs north-south between Court Street and University Avenue; and State Street which runs east-west between University Avenue and Court Street. On either side of MainStreet there are several smaller shopping streets that branch off from it including Second Avenue on the east side and Third avenue on the west side On Park Place there is a large open plaza which includes several shops such as JCPenney (now Macy's), Sears & Roebuck (now Kmart), Ahlborn Hardware (later A&H Supply Co.), LensCrafters (later ebay), LaCroix sparkling water products (later Pepsi Refreshments) as well as several restaurants including Benihana Japanese restaurant on Mainstreet North behind LensCrafters along with two gas stations one across from Ahlborn Hardware on State street near Applebees while another across from Sears & Roebuck next door at Masonic Temple Plaza also known as Fruitlands Shopping Center . There is also a small park located near where Second Ave meets Third avenue .

The town was founded in 1856 as a result of land speculation by early settler David Hotham and became a incorporated municipality in 1871. It has since grown rapidly due to its location within easy commuting distance of Green Bay, its clean air quality, and its wide variety of cultural attractions. Cedarburg also provides excellent education opportunities for its residents with strong private schools as well as several public colleges and universities located nearby including UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, and US Cellular Stadium which houses the NFL's Packers football team.

Cedarburg is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Cedar River near its confluence with the Milwaukee River. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Wisconsin metropolitan area and has a location within geographic boundaries of both Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. The first Europeans to visit what is now Cedarburg were French voyageurs in 1634-35 who named it "Le Vache". A post office called Cedarburg was established in 1836, and remained in operation until 1959. The town's name comes from cedar trees that grow naturally thereabouts. The first settlers were German immigrants who arrived around 1846-47 and named their community "Cedarburg". They built log cabins which remain standing today as evidence of their early settlement. The present day town was organized on February 14, 1888, when it was merged with nearby Mount Pleasant to form the new city of Madisonville (named for James Krieger). At that time, Cedarburg had a population of only 640 people living in 57 buildings.Within one year, however, all but two of those buildings had been destroyed by fire; this led to the founding of what became known as "the burning hut" campaign to promote fire prevention among early settlers. This effort eventually led to Cedarburg becoming an incorporated town with a permanent fire department and other public safety features typical of larger communities during that era such as streetlights and locks on doors
