Cedarburg is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,870 at the 2010 census. Cedarburg is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The first settlers in this area were Alexander and John Hersey who arrived about 1836. They started a farm on the east side of what is now Cedarburg Boulevard. In 1854, they took their families to live on the west side of town where they founded a sawmill and gristmill. They also built a school and church which are still standing today. In 1865, Isaac Sheffer came to Cedarburg from Green Bay with his family and started a tannery which still stands today. This was the beginning of Cedarburg's heavy industry that continues to this day including two gas stations, several restaurants and stores as well as numerous factories such as an auto dealership and tool company. In 1916, Withrow Ladd purchased the tannery from Isaac Sheffer and it continued to be run by him until it closed in 1978. The Ladd Tannery Complex still stands today (now known as Mid-America Manufacturing) housing several businesses including Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Foxconn Technology Group,, JBS USA., Northrop Grumman Corporation., Sears Holdings Corporation., Apple Inc., Facebook Inc., Googleplex LLC., lots of other small businesses etc... It has been home to many local meetups/conferences/workshops over the years like Hackerspace USA,, Maker Faire Madison East,) In 1984ish Carleton College students created an ice cream truck named "Milwaukee Creamery" after their hometown Dairy Queen down the street from their campus!

Cedarburg is located on Lower Green Bay, about 25 miles (40 km) west of Milwaukee and 50 miles (80 km) east of Madison. In 1840 it became part of the newly created Racine County, and then Racine again in 1851 when it merged with Milwaukee County. The first settler to arrive in what is now Cedarburg was Levi Coffin, who arrived in 1836 from Maryland. He built a cabin on the north side ofpresent-day Cedarburg Lake.
