Cedarburg is located on the Pine River and has a full-time school system with over fifty students. Cedarburg was founded in 1856 as a small trading post on the river by Eli Whitney and others. The community grew rapidly due to its location, good water supply, and fertile land. Today, Cedarburg is an active center for commerce with a variety of businesses including several banks, two health care clinics, four retail stores, two restaurants, and three churches.

Cedarburg, Wisconsin is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Cedarburg is the second most populous town in Dane County after Milwaukee. Cedarburg was founded in 1855 by Danish settlers from the east coast of Sweden and Norwegian immigrants. The first post office was established in Cedarburg on November 12, 1855. The name of the town may be based on cedar trees that grow near where it was founded. The first school in Cedarburg was built on a small lot near the present site of Elmhurst Elementary School. In 1859, a larger lot became available for school use and construction began on what is now Elmhurst High School. The first issue of the local newspaper, "The Tidewater", was published in 1865; it remainedpublished until 1984. A Carnegie library opened in 1907 and still operates today as Cedarburg Public Library System branch #2 (Libraries). In 1911–12, an elementary school addition also became available for use by students at Elmhurst High School and this building remains operational to this day as Elmhurst Middle School (now part of Second Mile Community Schools). In 1916–17, Cedarburg voters passed a $100 appropriation to build a new high school which would serve all residents of the area not already attending schools within two miles (3 km) of downtown Cedarburg or elsewhere within five miles (8 km) of its limits. Construction began on what would become North Central High School on March 3, 1917; it opened its doors to students on September 15th that year. On October 1st 1928 – less than one year after its opening – North Central closed due to financial difficulties brought about by changes in government policy relating to public education funding levels across America.
