Cedarburg, Wisconsin is a small town in the eastern United States. It was founded in 1837 by John H. Cedar and his wife Sarah. The Cedarburg Manufacturing Company was founded in 1887 and became one of the largest employers in the community. The Cedarburg School District was formed in 1902 and remains one of the most comprehensive school districts in Wisconsin. The town is located on the banks of the river Koshkonka, about twenty miles northwest of Milwaukee. According to the 2010 census, Cedarburg has a population of 3,851 living within its limits (as well as an estimated 2,500 residents who reside outside its boundaries). Of these residents, 1,855 are employed within municipal limits; 850 are self-employed; and 350 are unemployed. The first settler in what is now Cedarburg was John H. Cedar himself. He came over with his family from Pennsylvania around 1800 AD and started a farm near present-day Waukesha Countyline. After some time he moved eastward to what is now Watertown before coming back to live near where he had set up shop earlier that year - on what is today's east side of town - with his son John A./John H., Jr.. In 1837 John H./John A., Jr.'s brother George D./George Dayton built a cabin on land that still stands just north of downtown (now part of University Park) – this being only the second house ever built colony-wise inside present day Cedarburg Township! Over time more families arrived including brothers Elijah/Elijah McCowan (1841-1924), James B./James Branham (1846-1912), David Dayton/David DeVault (1849-1925), Isaac Richardson/Isaac Richardson (1850-1920), Nicholas Scherrer/Nicholas Scherrer (1800-)… until finally all but two families were removed from their homes by order of Judge Samuel Fenton due to overcrowding aboard ship “ Illinois” during her maiden voyage across Lake Michigan on November 17th 1847! For those remaining they eked out an existence mostly off their own resources until finally becoming citizens or applying for incorporation into an existing Townships like Waukesha & Milwaukee Counties when it became apparent that they could not keep up with population growth! One notable exception to this trend however was David Dayton/David DeVault who actually managed to keep pace with population growth by moving into new lots northeast of town along Koshkonka River creating what would eventually become known as Highland Park! Ironically enough David Dayton died just five days after receiving incorporation into town when hit by a vehicle while crossing street at high speed – leading many believe his death may have been hastened as a result!! In spite of these natural obstacles which continually hampered development efforts over time – much credit must be given to pioneers such as John H./John A., Jr., George D./George Dayton, Elijah McCowan and James B./James Branham for really starting things off here – ultimately progress did occur thanks largely to hard work from everyone involved culminating with final annexation by Milwaukee County back in 1912 making Cedarburg officially incorporated onto our great stateof Wisconsin !!!

The first Europeans to visit Cedarburg were French traders in 1670; they named it Pointe du Lac after a small point on Lake Michigan near which they stopped for water. In 1779, Captain John Marchand's exploring party found an abandoned French trading post at what is now town center; he called it "Cedarburg." Marchand built a fort there and used it as his winter headquarters until he moved his headquarters to Green Bay in 1788. In 1836, Cedarburg became part of Green Bay Township when that township was organized; it remained so until 1888 when it became part of CedarburgCounty. A large mill complex was built here by local entrepreneurs during the late 19th century, including Jens Calkins and George Fenton; both men are buried in nearby Maplewood Cemetery . After World War II, many new businesses came into being in Cedarburg: such as Ford Motor Company (1947), Hecht’s Brothers Candy Store (1948), Wernicke Chevrolet (1962), United States Paper Company (1965), Koppers Drug Mart (1975) and more recently Nike Incorporated (2015). When Interstate 90 was extended through southeastern Wisconsin in 1956, portions of Cedarburg were incorporated within newly created Racine County while other portions remain within current Douglas County . As a result of these changes, most residents now live within either Racine or Douglas Counties
