Caledonia, Wisconsin was founded in 1848 by John C. Calhoun as a fur-trading post on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The town prospered for many years, but then gold and silver became available in California and mining began in earnest, causing some economic decline. In 1854, Caledonia voted to become an incorporated municipality with a mayor and a committee form of government. The following year, it became the first city in Wisconsin to be chartered as a dry city.

Caledonia, Wisconsin is a town in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–West Allis–Hudson, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Caledonia was George M. Ladd who arrived on July 11, 1836. He and his wife Nancy built a log cabin near present-day Caledonia on Hwy 3 south of thepresent day city of Green Bay. They were followed by other settlers until 1849 when the first post office was established in Caledonia with John Tisdale as its first postmaster. In 1851, one mile west of present day Caledonia was founded an agricultural village named Crescent City by David Schieffer and his family. By 1860 there were ten buildings in Crescent City including a store and jail which served as the nucleus for what would become later known as downtown Green Bay. In 1870 James Fenton bought land from David Schieffer east of Crescent City and began to cultivate it into farmland that would eventually be called Edstrom Prairie. In 1892 Mrs. Anna Buhl (later Mrs.) donated land for a school which became known as Lady Lake School District No 2 around 1915 when that area changed hands several times before becoming the current school district boundaries with Lady Lake through annexation by Oshkosh in 1959 . Today’s core business district lies within this old school district boundary just northwest of Caledonia Village . A post office called “Caledonia” had been established at Crescent City west of present day Green Bay on December 10, 1861 , but no mail ever traveled to or from this village until 1865 when mail started being sent to “Caledonia” via Waukesha County . On May 6th 1865 Alfred Menard registered himself as a voter at “Caledonica” and reported he had five acres(of ) farm property valued at $100 which he leased from Jno Haglund who also resided thereabouts ]. A store opened up soon afterwards called Menard's Store & Auction House located northeast corner lot #2 between N Main St & Second Ave . The store continued operation until 1902 when it burned down due to firemen trying to put out a small fire caught accidentally while they were making repairs inside ]. A post office called “Morna” had been established at Crescent City east of present day Green Bay on February 8th 1863 , but no mail ever traveled to or from this village until 1865 when mail started being sent to Morna via Waukesha County '. On October 5th 1865 Addison Dyer registered himself as a voter at Morna] and reported he had three acres(of ) farm property valued at $20 which he leased from Geo Goode ]]. A store opened up soon afterwards called Dyer's Drug Store located southwest corner lot #1 between First Ave & Second St ]]. This store continued operation until 1903 when it burned down due to firemen trying to put out a small fire caught accidentally while they were making repairs inside ]. A post office called “Gadgette” had been established at Crescent City east of present day Green Bay on November 12th 1863 , but no mail ever traveled to or from this village until 1865 when mail started being sent to Gadgette via Waukesha County '. On January 9th 1865 Charles Gadgetson registered himself as a voter at Gadgette] and reported he had two acres(of ) farm property valued at $10 which he leased from Geo Goode ]. However because Gadgetsone only lived about 1/4 mile north [of] where today's core business district lies within this old school district boundary just northwest ofCaledoni Village ], these addresses will not appear here.]
Caledonia was founded in 1837 by Swedish immigrants. The town grew rapidly and by 1860, it had a population of over 500 people. By the early 1880s, Caledonia had become an important manufacturing center in the area. However, during the Great Depression, the town lost its economic stability and went into decline. In the late 1930s, however,Caledonia experienced a rebirth as a bedroom community for Milwaukee’s southwest Side. In recent years, Caledonia has completely regained its former prominence as a commercial and cultural hub in southeastern Wisconsin.
