Spaulding and shot off by David Prentice on July 4th, 1841. It was a muzzle loading rifle made of Maplewood barrels. In 1847, Isaac Leland donated a shotgun to the town which helped start the gunsmith industry in Caledonia.

Caledonia is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,827 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Caledonia were white men from Maryland and Virginia who arrived in 1837. They named their new community after the Scottish city of Caldernay which they had seen on their travels. The first stores opened in 1839, and by 1840 there were five businesses in the town. A post office was established in 1846, and by 1860 there were twenty-one businesses operating in Caledonia. By 1870, only three businesses remained and the population had decreased to 5,000 people. In 1880, however, a large influx of Irish immigrants led to a dramatic increase in business activity as well as population growth throughout the town. In 1895, Caledonia became an incorporated municipality with a population of 10,000 residents; it would grow to over 20K by 1930 when annexed into Milwaukee County. Caledonia was first settled in 1836 by the Chippewa people. The town was also founded by John Prentice, a white man, in 1855. In 1870, Caledonia became a town when it united with the neighboring towns of Sturgeon and Menomonee. The town was renamed after Scotland's Clydesdale region in 1907.
