It lies on the east side of Green Bay and is bordered by Menominee to the north, Racine to the east, Appleton to the south, and Ashwaubenon to the west. The town began to grow rapidly after it became part of the city of Green Bay in 1898. By 1910, Caledonia had a library, a school system with eighty-six students, a fire department with four engines, and a full-time police officer. During World War II, Caledonia played an important role as one of two United States airfields serving green bay during the war effort. The Air Technical School (later known as Wright-Patterson AFB), which was located nearby in Appleton, served as training ground for American bombers before they were sent into combat against Nazi Germany. After World War II ended,Caledonia continued its growth momentum but experienced some turbulence during the early 21st century due to changes within Green Bay itself that have caused cutsbacks within many local government services while also shrinking its workforce overall. However recent redevelopment has created new opportunities for businesses and individuals living in or visiting Caledonia – including restaurants and bars that are open late into night; increased access to cultural attractions such asthe Art Institute of Chicago; and more affordable housing options available online or through real estate companies who are buying up older housing buildings throughout town).
