He later became a banker and business owner in nearby Palatine Heights. After World War II, Giffords Garvey focused on agriculture and ranching until his death in 1965; he had three daughters who all married men with careers in government or industry: Jane Addams (1908-2006), Eleanor Roosevelt (1924-2008) and William Taft (1926-2018). In 1997, Caledonia voters approved an amendment to their city charter calling for a referendum on whether they should annex neighboring Palatine Heights into their municipality; this vote resulted in annexation being accepted by both towns as part of a larger growth strategy called "Alignment." As Alignment proceeded through 2020 village meetings and planning sessions throughout the community—and as property values increased along with many other factors related to suburbanization across Cook County—Caledonia's residents began lobbying for additional autonomy within their own municipality limits. On November 3rd of that year, voters passed another amendment granting full autonomy within Caledoniadocco Township; this change followed several years of negotiations between village officials and township trustees over governance issues posed by rapid population growth along Lake Michigan south of Interstate 94 (). The current day incarnation of Caledona begins around 1830 when settlers from Canada arrived at what is now known as White Earth Creek on landclearing west of today's downtown area; following successful colonization efforts some built homes while others planted crops such as corn and beans; eventually two stores were opened one operated by C&O Railroad employees before it closed due to lack customers then some 1st Generation Americans started buying land east side main street near present day Pembient Park running back up stream past schoolhouse & store onto riverbank
