Brown Deer is a town in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first white people to live in what is now Brown Deer were farmers who arrived from Illinois in 1847. They named their community after John Brown, an American frontiersman and abolitionist who fought for independence from Great Britain. The town was founded in 1851 as a Sawmill village and then became a city when it incorporated as a town on February 14, 1903. Brown Deer is located at (43.090609,-88.823383). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and 0.06% is water.[1] As of the census of 2000, there were 1,636 people, 553 households, and 401 families residing in the town. The population density was 382 people per square mile (158/km²). There were 691 housing units at an average density of 194 per square mile (75/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 2% Native American; and 1% Asian or Pacific Islander

In 1862, a school was built, and by 1865 the town had two churches and a population of over one hundred people. In 1870, the town became part of Racine County, Wisconsin. In 1893, the county merged with Milwaukee County to form Waukesha County. The Brown Deer community continued to grow until it ceased operations in 1922 due to economic reasons. Today, the remains of the community can be seen scattered throughout the township of Brown Deer – including a small park located on Main Street – as well as at various other locations within Waukesha County.
