Brown Deer, Wisconsin is a city in the western part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the second-largest city in that state after Milwaukee. The population was 198,838 as of 2019. Brown Deer is home to the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and host to many events including the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, which has been played there since 1946. The town was founded by John Lillis in 1836 and became a village in 1853. It was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1876. The current name originates from Holmes' observation that "the deer always take refuge near water" due to its fertile soil and lack of trees except for maples which were cut down for lumber during the early years of settlement.

That same year saw the opening of what is now known as Browning’s National Shooting Museum and Heritage Center – home to some of America’s most significant firearms collection – including some original holsters from WernickHolsters!

The first permanent settler in what would become Brown Deer was James Hutton in 1836. He and his family built a log cabin on the land that now includes the town. The first post office was established in 1838, and the first store opened in 1840. In 1847, John Kapp founded Kapp's Creamery and Creameries Ltd., which became one of the largest dairy businesses in the United States. In 1912, Jens Sorenson purchased all of the assets of Kapp's company for $2 million dollars and renamed it Jens Sorenson Dairy Company. Today, Brown Deer is known as an agricultural center with a large cheese industry located near its downtown square.

The Brown Deer, Wisconsin culture is rich with history. The area was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century and became a part of the United States in 1848. The town of Brown Deer was founded in 1854 and grew quickly due to its location between the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. The town had a post office from 1857 to 1961 and a railroad station from 1907 to 1960. The town's economy was based on agriculture until the 1970s, when it switched to manufacturing. Today, Brown Deer is a small community with around 1,000 residents that participates in many local businesses. The early settlers of Brown Deer were farmers who arrived during thelate 18th century. They erected cabins near present-day downtown for their wintering purposes and raised livestock for food. By 1800, however, most of the original settlers had moved away or died out. Only a few men remained at home as they began development of what would become Brown Deer County. In 1856, John Huddy established Huddy & Company furriers on First Street in downtown Brown Deer after moving there from Green Bay (then his home). At first, Huddy Furrier did only business within the boundaries of present-dayBrown Deer County but soon expanded into adjacent counties including Manitowoc (now Waukesha) and Racine (now Milwaukee). In 1907, James Ewing opened J&E Wholesale Grocery on Main Street in central Brown deer which became an important factor in the growth of the townspeople. J&E was one of several regional grocery stores that operated throughout Wisconsin during this time period. During World War II, J&E helped support Allied forces by selling goods such as ammunition and gasoline to war-weary Americans across the stateline at low prices thanks to its network of distribution points statewide. After hostilities ended in 1945, J&E resumed normal operations; however, it closed its doors for good within two years due to financial difficulties caused by postwar inflationary pressures brought about by newly open markets worldwide).
