In 1876, Brown Deer was the site of a gun battle between United States Cavalry and Native Americans. The battle resulted in the death of five American soldiers and the wounding of more than 20 native warriors.
Brown Deer is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located about 20 miles northeast of Milwaukee and about 25 miles east of Green Bay. The population was 1,829 at the 2000 census. The name "Brown Deer" was given to the community by settlers who called it "Bridgewater." The first white men to visit what is now Brown Deer were traders from Chicago in 1837. They named their new community after John Brown, an American Revolutionary War general and patriot who had fought in Canada and Virginia. The first store in town opened in 1846, and the first post office was established in 1851. In 1870, a sawmill was built on the river near present-day downtown Brown Deer; this mill continued operation until 1957. Today, there are only a few buildings remaining from those times: a schoolhouse (1869), courthouse (1871), Masonic lodge (1906), and depot (1910). In 1903, four brothers founded the paper company which still operates as Phelps Paper Company today. One of these brothers - Homer Hixon - later served as mayor of Brown Deer for three terms between 1934-1945. Another brother - Willis Wirtz - also served as mayor during that time period before he died suddenly at age 68 years old in 1945 while serving his final term as Mayoralty Officer for village government effective 2/1/46 thru 3/31/48 inclusive Brown Deer began its own fire department on July 1st 1907 when one man donated $50 towards its purchase A post office opened at this location on October 12th 1896 under the name Bridgewater . It continued operations until November 6th 1956 . There have been several establishments within walking distance of our current downtown area such as The Diner , Walmart & Burger King with all having closed or moved out over time...the last two being replaced by Kroger stores

However, their extinction does not mean that they are gone for good; rather, some of them may have been reintroduced into the wild. The Wisconsin Historical Society has a website with information about this extinct species and others from the Midwest.
Brown Deer was first settled in 1836 by Isaac Brown and his family. The community prospered and became a town in 1864. In the 1930s, the post office closed, but the community continued to thrive due to its agricultural production. Brown Deer experienced economic decline during World War II, but has since recovered. The current population of Brown Deer is over 950 people.
