The Brookfield Police Department was founded on July 1, 1851. The department's first officers were sworn in at the courthouse on what is now North First Street. In 1875, the department moved to its current location on South Second Street. In 1902, the department acquired a new station house and police call box. In 1916, the department purchased a horse-drawn wagon for use as a conveyor belt for arresting criminals. In 1922, the Brookfield Fire Department joined the force and Officers Harry Cwik and Frank Auerbach became firefighters with the department. On October 8, 1954, Officer John Fenton was killed in action while serving with the Brookfield Police Department when he was shot by an assailant who later turned out to be responsible for his death.
Brookfield, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 8,241 at the 2000 census and 9,867 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, it had a total population of 11,540. Brookfield was platted on December 30, 1836 by James Lyon and others as part of the Town of Brookfield. The first settler was John Welsh who filed a plat on January 10th, 1840 with James Lyon as his attorney. On November 7th 1847 Isaac Fuller set up shop in what is now Brookfield Village and became one of its earliest settlers In 1854 there were only 26 residents in Brookfield Village and by 1860 there were over 400 residents On March 20th 1861 Charles Goodrich arrived from Illinois with his family to start a grocery business which would remain active until he left for good in 1957 Also during this time many other pioneers such as George Weller (1810-1879), Elijah Jelinek (1812-1881), Augustus Kelley (1815-1901) and David Pease also established themselves in Brookfield In 1865 when Union troops burned down part of downtown Milwaukee they destroyed all but 3 buildings in what is now known as "The Burning" era The remaining buildings still stand today including two churches which are used for weddings and funerals today . This event is often cited as one of the main reasons for creating the city boundaries that are currently defined within downtownBrookfield After The Burning there was much debate about what should be done with all of these destroyed buildings however eventually it was decided that most if not all should be repaired or rebuilt andUsed again as homes or businesses . By 1870Brookfield had reached 1,000 residents

Brookfield is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 15,477 at the 2010 census, up from 14,728 at the 2000 census. Brookfield was founded in 1834 by Joshua Block and family as a small community on a bend in the Fox River near what is now Waukesha County. The first post office was established in 1835, and by 1840, Brookfield had developed into a small town with a population of around 100 people. In 1849, Brookfield became one of five towns to be incorporated within Milwaukee County; it remained an incorporated town until it dissolved as part of its annexation into Milwaukee in 1896. Brookfield experienced significant economic growth during the early 20th century thanks to its role as an agricultural center for local processing industries such as meatpacking and cheese manufacturing. However, during World War II Brookfield lost much of its manufacturing output to military production; however, it has since regained some stability and has become a leading research center for computer technology companies such as Intel and Motorola Mobility.
