Brookfield is a town in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 24,814 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous town in Milwaukee County after Wauwatosa. Brookfield was originally organized as a village in 1836 and became one of the towns in Racine County when Racine was annexed by Milwaukee in 1847. The current Town of Brookfield was created on January 1, 1951 when the portions of Racine and West Allis were merged into Milwaukee. The land around present-day Brookfield was first settled by people from Ohio and other parts of Eastern Europe who arrived during the Great Lakes region's largest land rush of the 1800s. Many of these immigrants founded villages or small towns along what are now I-94 and I-46 corridors. By 1830, many residents had moved to new lands within Racine County that were then accessible by wagon road from western Milwaukee County. In 1836, a group of men led by John Dravet decided to form a new village on some property east of present day Brookfield for this purpose. Under guise of building an academy for local students, they sold off part of their holdings for $1 per acre (the sale did not take place until 1840). This village would be called "Dravetville". The name change may have been due to early settlers confusion with Dayton Township which also had a similar name at that time (and later became De Pere Township). Dravetville would remain active until it burned down in 1848 while under construction; however, no one ever served jail time for arson because it could have resulted in death if caught alive! A few years later, another group formed to purchase additional parcels near where Dravetville once stood and called themselves "Brookfield Village". At first this group only built homes; but over time they began to available land for farming as well as erection of shops and businesses which attracted more people interested in settling here than just those from Ohio! One such business owner was John Cushman who opened up what is today known as Cushman Bros., grocery store & restaurant on North Fourth Street between East Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue (now Park Avenue). Over time more businesses came& went& some foundered& others prospered! In 1860 & 1861 two separate elections were held within Racine County to determine whether or not any new territory should be added to MilwaukeeCounty including Brookfield Village! After much discussion amongst neighbors & citizens both sides unanimously voted against any annexation pending further review! Annexation did not happen until Jan 1 1951 when all three areas incorporated into one consolidated municipality makingBrookFIELDthe newestTownofMilwaukeeCountyonthatdate!TodayBrookfeldistshelargestTowninMilwaukeecountywith25000residents!

Brookfield is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first people to live in Brookfield were the Menomonee Indian tribe and their allies who established a village on the east side of the river near present-day Brookfield Center. These first settlers were known as "The Potawatomi." The first U.S. post office in this town was called Menomonee Falls and opened in 1836. The name of the town may be from nearby Menomonee River which flows through it into Lake Michigan.. The community grew rapidly after American immigrants came to Brookfield to found new towns along railroads south of Milwaukee during the 1850s and 1860s. By 1870, over 100 families had settled here, making Brookfield one of Wisconsin's largest towns by that time. The railway arrived just in time for this boom, spurring an even greater increase in population and business growth. The city core began to develop around 1900 when electric streetlights became available and businesses moved into new buildings on South 2nd Street between State Street and Wauwatosa Avenue (now Wells Road). At that point, most residents lived close to their jobs while commuting into downtown Milwaukee or other nearby cities; however, some older areas such as West Allis still retain some rural character with large farms dotting the landscape near central business district streets like North 4th Street and Watertown Avenue (now Kedzie Boulevard). Brookfield's growth slowed somewhat following World War II but resumed significantly after Interstate 94 was constructed linking Milwaukee with Chicago via Green Baywaukee county - turning much of northcentral Wisconsin into a bedroom community for northern Illinoisans until suburbanization began more than 50 years later. In recent decades there has been increased demand for housing within walking distance of job centers throughout northwest Wisconsin; however, many residents continue to commute long distances each day to work outside of town limits.
Brookfield was founded in 1836 by Michael Brook, a Quaker. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 200 residents. In 1875, the town became part of the new Racine County. TheBrookfield Volunteer Fire Department was chartered in 1888. In 1911, the city of Racine annexed Brookfield.
