Beloit, Wisconsin is a town in the Black River Valley in southcentral Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,005 at the 2010 census. Beloit has been the home of a variety of industries and businesses since 1851 when it was settled by farmers. In recent years, Beloit has become an center for shooting sports and hunting due to its location and infrastructure. The first handguns were manufactured here in 1852 by local manufacturer George Pease. firearms production continued until 1906 when all handgun manufacturing moved to Chicago. This left Beloit as the only town in Wisconsin without a major gun manufacturer. One of the most famous firearms made in Beloit was the Brown Bess Rifle which served as the basis for many American weapons such as rifles, pistols and shotguns. Other notable manufacturers who have produced firearms here include Weiser Firearms Company (now Winchester), Smith & Wesson Manufacturing Company (later Colt), John Marlin Firearms Corporation (now Remington Arms) and Savage Arms Company (now Stevens). Today, Beloit is home to variousgunsmiths who offer services such as barrel tuning, trigger work and stock installation. Beloit, Wisconsin is a small town located in the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 7,471 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Beloit College and the Milwaukee-Waukesha County Combined Statistical Area. Beloit was founded in 1854 as a farmstead by Abram Belous and his wife Esther. The town became a village in 1907. It received city status in 1959 and became part of Milwaukee on December 3, 1996. The first settler on what would become Beloit was Abram Belous, who arrived with his family from Russia on November 15, 1854. In 1850, Abram had married Anna Ivanova; they had two children: Abraham (born October 15, 1852) and Sarah (born February 15, 1855). Abram died August 26, 1865 at age 48 from injuries he sustained when he was swept off his horse while grazing near La Crosse during a snowstorm. His widow Anna raised their two children until their father's death in 1870; then she took care of them herself until her husband's death four years later. She served as head housekeeper to the late Mr. & Mrs. John Fritchie from 1860 to 1862 before becoming an independent woman for six years until she married Amos Sifton on June 12th 1875 (age 42). They moved into 5 E Superior Street where they lived until their sale to Muellek & Laughlin which left them there with three unmarried daughters between 1886-1894 due to lack of property within town limits after purchase by Muellek family They lost everything including furniture that moved around constantly 4 times across 2 states never being put back together again so you could see it! The largest manufacturer of tractors in the United States was founded here in 1905 by George Stephenson and his son Andrew Stephenson. Other major businesses include Wabash Paper Company (founded 1865), Bradley Corporation (founded 1926), American Mutt & Weatherers Brewery (founded 1923), and A&P Supermarket Incorporated (founded 1957).
