Beloit, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the seat of Beloit County. The population was 20,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is one of the most populous cities in Minnesota. The city's name comes from an 1838 treaty between French Canadians and United States settlers which resulted in France ceding land near what is now Beloit to America.

Beloit is a city in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 41,912 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Beloit County. The city is located on the banks of the river Mississippi River. The land that would become Beloit was first settled by Native Americans in what is now central Wisconsin about 4,000 years ago. In 1836, the town of Beloit was founded by farmers from Duluth, Minnesota as a result of an agricultural depression caused by a decreased demand for goods brought overland by Indians and other settlers during the 1830s. A new post office was established in 1836 and named for Bishop John Noble Hardeman of St Paul de la Garde Parish in Minnesota who had been appointed to lead a mission here to convert Native American chiefs to Christianity. In 1840, when territorial Milwaukee County was organized, Beloit became part of it and remained so until it lost its charter as a municipality in 1886 due to local opposition to annexation into Milwaukee County (the process known as "settlement"). In 1907–08, however, after passage of the United States Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment which granted voting rights to all citizens regardless of race or color (a major victory for civil rights activists), Beloit voted overwhelmingly in favor of becoming an incorporated municipality within Milwaukee County. On November 3rd 1908 – one week before election day – voters approved incorporation with an 83% vote against proposal from then-Milwaukee City Councilmember George Hennepin that would have kept the city separate from Milwaukee County despite strong community support for merger. On July 1st 1960, following enactment of Wisconsin's Municipal Code Section 1052(3) which provided municipalities with power to make ordinances regulating business operations including zoning and liquor sales – including allowing beer gardens throughout their jurisdictions – Beloit became one of just 22 Wisconsin cities which entered into full code implementation under this section upon its passage two years earlier unopposed by either state legislators or Mayor Edward Meehan (who declined office because he did not want his home stately Park West Building destroyed).
