Beloit’s history with firearms starts with the first pistols brought over by the French in the mid-1700s. The area that is today Beloit was at the time part of what is now Wisconsin. In 1836, a Swiss immigrant named Johann Georg Weber purchased land east of Milwaukee and began to build a sawmill and grist mill on his property. At this point, guns were not common in Wisconsin as they were only used for hunting and target shooting. However, Weber had a wife who owned a gun, so he started to import handguns from Illinois into Wisconsin to sell to his customers. By 1850, there were about 60 handguns in Wisconsin!

Beloit, Wis. is located in the heart of the Great Lakes region and straddles both sides of the river that marks its boundary. The city was founded by General George Gage in 1836 as a fur trading post on the north side of the river. In 1841, it became a town and later, a city. The population of Beloit reached 2,500 in 1860 and 5,000 in 1870. The growth of railroad transportation led to changes in Beloit’s economy and social structure. Manufacturing replaced fur-trading as the mainstay of Beloit’s economy during this period. The decline of manufacturing during World War II caused a decrease in population and employment, but new industries have since arisen to improve Beloit’s quality of life. Today,Beloit is an important center for education and industry within Wisconsin’s metropolitan area

Beloit is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the north shore of Lake Beloit. The population was 23,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of La Crosse County and one of the fastest-growing cities in Wisconsin. Beloit began as a small community on the east side of Lake Beloit in 1854, when John Fenton built a log cabin on what is now Wacker Drive (now State Highway 12). The area around today's Beloit was first settled by Germans in 1837, and by Americans in 1854. In 1868, an act to create La Crosse County was passed by Congress and signed by President Andrew Johnson. The town of Beloit was founded on land that had been donated by Drury Covington from his estate near Princeton Junction, New Jersey to be used for school purposes. By 1870, however, only about 60 people lived there; most were farmers who raised cattle and hogs for local consumption or traded goods with other villages along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. In 1872, Leland Stanford organized a group of investors to purchase part of Lemberg Township from Michael Denny for $1 million dollars ($10 million adjusted 2015 dollars). The new settlement became known as Stanfordville after him and it soon became an important center for agricultural trade along the Fox River valley west of Chicago. In 1886–87, construction began on Northwestern Pacific Railroad's La Crosse Branch line between Workman Station southeast of town and Racine (then called Prairie du Chien), which opened in 1889; this helped make Beloit one of northern Wisconsin's leading cities during its early years as an agricultural center. After Northern Pacific merged with Chicago Central Railroad in 1906 to form Great Northern Railway, many businesses closed down along with manufacturing sectors within Illinois and northeast Minnesota following World War I cessation; however, many new companies emerged such as Alcoa aluminum production beginning around 1920 based largely upon aluminum mining operations conducted at Menomonee Falls northwest of town; steel production also commenced during this time period due to nearby blast furnaces operated by Jäger & Sohns Corporation (now ArcelorMittal) . During World War II much industry relocating from Illinois moved into northeastern Wisconsin due to wartime demand: auto plants such as Ford Motor Company (later General Motors) started up south near Joliet while other heavy manufacturers like J&P Production Co., American Can Company (ACI), Milwaukee vs Detroit Shipbuilding Corp., MAN Truck & Carriage Works relocated their factories northward across Cook Countyline towards Green Bay—thus making way for what is now North Park neighborhood adjacent to downtown . Even though war production led some mills close or outsource production throughout all southeastern Wisconsin communities impacted by USAAF bombing raids over Europe en masse during 1945-1946—particularly those located outside urban areas such as Menomonee Falls—Beloit continued producing munitions until 1951 . However non-industrial sectors typically experienced significantly greater loss rates due principally to natural disasters such as floods resulting from melting glaciers which inundated townships upstream including those situated bordering Lacrosse Creek Valley—resulting in displacement or loss totaling more than 100% among residents within these areas encompasses portions southwest/southwest suburban Whitefish Bayou watershed east/northern suburbs Allendale Woods neighborhoods northwestern suburban Stevens Point vicinity northeast suburban Sheboygan Riverside Neighborhoods & annexed Scottston
