Bellevue is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,823 at the 2010 census. Bellevue ishome to the Bellevue Symphony Orchestra and Bellevue Community High School. The first permanent settler in what is now Bellevue was Abram Sibley on December 11, 1836. Sibley purchased 4 acres of land from John Belknap for $50. He named his new tract of land "Bellevue" after his home town of London, England. In 1854, Josephine Kapp and her husband Charles built a log cabin near the intersection of Highway 33 and First Street. Mrs. Kapp later married Isaac Noyes and they also built a cabin there. By 1870, all but one of the original settlers had abandoned Bellevue due to economic reasons such as lack of water or transportation available to get goods to market. On January 6, 1889, the Town of Bellevue was organized when it absorbed the Village of East Galesburg (dated November 5th). On October 15th 1901 by order of Land Board President Hurlbut Jordon posthumously renamed Bellevue after General George Washington which honorably accepted an award from then-Governor William McKinley foringuished public service during World War I In 1922-1923 three blocks west from Second Street on Park Street were constructed two high school buildings including one for grades 9 through 12 which became known as "Pioneer North". This building served as both school and community center until 1959 when it burned down completely; park Blocks III-VII remain today as property used for storage by several small businesses next door including two jewelry stores that have since closed up shop - fact that made Pioneer North possible still remains unknown to anyone living in or around this area today
