Bellevue, Wisconsin is one of the most firearm-friendly communities in the United States. The city has a long history with firearms, dating back to 1866 when it became part of the state of Wisconsin. Bellevue was once home to Butler Arsenal, one of the largest and most important gun factories in America. One of the earliest firearms t-shirts produced in Bellevue was created by John Lennon for his then-new band Yoko Ono’s album “Here Comes The Sun”. The Bellevue Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in Bellevue, Wisconsin in 1892. The club became the first rifle and pistol club in the city and its members enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and target shooting opportunities. In 1907 the club changed its name to Bellevue Rifle & Pistol Club Incorporated. The company operated a local ammunition store until it went out of business in 1951.

By 1850, Bellevue's population had reached 2,500 people; by 1860 it hadgrown to 10,000 people. Businesses in early Bellevue included saddlers, harnessmakers, clothiers, groceries (including a brewery), millers (eventually becoming specialty grain dealers), lawyers (initially rendering services only to other local attorneys), physicians (Fayetteville having no medical school at that time),Bootstrap schools for young ladies taught from infancy until they could go off to marry or enter respectable society—the very same programs still extant today in various form throughout rural America—and canal workers loading goods onto wagons on State Street between Third Street and Main Street during Sans Souci era days when Lake Michigan was frozen over most of the year made their way through town on horse-drawn carts laden with produce from outlying farms

Bellevue, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the eastern edge of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 11,835 at the 2010 census. Bellevue began as a small settlement on the banks of the Menomonee River in 1847 and grew to become one of Wisconsin's most important towns during its early years as a national center for railroads and manufacturing. In 1925, Bellevue became one of only two communities in Wisconsin to be granted city status when it merged with neighboring Racine. As Racine declined in importance after World War II, Bellevue grew even faster and by 1990 had reached its present size and prominence as an agricultural community that manufactures goods such as cheese, apples, flowers, bicycles and other outdoor recreation items.
Bellevue was founded in 1854 by John F. Bellevue and his wife, Emma. The town was originally called "Bellefontaine" after the Belle Fontaine river located just outside of town. In 1879, Bellevue became a city and renamed itself to honor General Philip Sheridan.
