Water supply for downtown Beaverdam began arriving from underground water tables early in 1915; this gave Beaverdam an early lead over other communities that would later develop groundwater water supplies. By 1936, all but one acre of land north of State Street had been developed for residential use and commercial development; however industrial production continued through World War II before waning during the postwar period that followed Downtown Beaverdam experienced rapid redevelopment following 9/11/2001 after photos were taken showing damage done by terrorists while they converged on New York City's Twin Towers complex . This resulted in many businesses moving into downtown Beaverdam including Sears & Roebuck who moved their headquarters from Hoffman Estates IL with 1,000 employees just prior to 9/11/2001; these buildings remain among Downtown Beaverdam's most visible landmarks today

The first permanent settler in what is now Beaver Dam was John Pemberton, who arrived in 1837 and named it after his home village of Beaverdam in Ontario, Canada. Beaver Dam Lake was created by damming of the creek. In 1852, when Bad Axe Township was organized, Beaver Dam became part of that township. Beaver Dam has been home to a variety of businesses including a paper mill, an auto dealership and a chemical plant over the years. The town's biggest employer until recently was the government-owned Waukesha County Technical College which operated two campuses here: one near downtown and another on Park Ridge Road east of town. WCTC closed its operations here in September 2013 as part of nationwide budget cutsbacks affecting higher education institutions nationwide. Today, most people living within walking distance of downtown or Park Ridge Road are employed by their local businesses either directly or through their local Chamber of Commerce chapter or trade association; there are few independent retail stores remaining in town today except for one general store located about two miles outside downtown on State Highway 51W (now US 41W). In addition to this small store there is also only one other business open for economic transactions within walking distance from town center—a convenience store which does not sell any goods except cigarettes and candy
Beaver Dam was a small but important community in central Wisconsin during the 1800s. The community was founded by the brothers Amos and Ethan Wineland in 1824, and it grew rapidly due to its natural resources. In 1835, Beaver Dam became the county seat of Dane County, and it remained an important town until the early 20th century.
