Baraboo is a small town in the county of Racine, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Baraboo were French traders in 1639 and 1640. The name "Baraboo" likely derived from a nearby Maquoketa River where a band of Ojibwa had been living for some time before being driven out by Indian settlers in 1701. A post office called Baraboo was established in 1834, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. The first organized industry in Baraboo was agriculture; later it became an agricultural processing center for the surrounding area. One early employer of local residents was the Waukesha County Agricultural Company which operated an armory and other businesses near present-day downtown Baraboo from 1852 to 1865. With increased production came increased demand for workforceSpace, leading tovillage consolidation that began around this time and led to the development ofwhat is today's downtown district as well as numerous schools and other public buildings.. In 1902, voters ratified a proposition providing government funding for electric lights within village limits while retaining some autonomy over important aspects such as fire protection and zoning regulations; this contributed to the rapid growth of downtown during this period.. In 1925, Municipal Court Judge John Hickey opened up shop on Main Street serving as both court house and jail; this later became known as Hickey's Drugs (now Waukesha County Drugstore). Local grocery stores soon followed suit with their own stores located along Center Street between State Street/Downtown Baraboo and First Avenue/Old Town Square - one of which remains open today (the Plaza Pharmacy). With more businesses sprouting up throughout town, combined with continued growth rates due largely to government investment – including major renovations completed through 1990 – Downtown started becoming known as "The Hub". Today there are several large shopping malls located across suburban areas outside of town but Downtown still retains its vitality offering access toseveral restaurants & nightlife venues including top rated bars/restaurants like Terminal 5 Pub & Grill popular among students or anyone who wants an affordable night out on weekdays or Saturdays alike!

Baraboo, Wisconsin is a small town in the western part of the United States. The population was 1,161 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The name likely comes from an Algonquian word meaning "a place where there are many ponds." The first European to visit Baraboo was Jean Nicolet in 1673 and he named it after his home town Pemaquid, Newfoundland. In 1836, General Zachary Taylor moved his headquarters from Chicago to Green Bay and officially designated this area as Baraboo Township. On May 6, 1846, Congress passed a bill establishing the Milwaukee County System which included Baraboo Township within its boundaries. In 1902-1903, George Washington Carver visited Baraboo for three months and he is credited with helping start the local agricultural industry in this area by providing land for farming purposes and teaching methods of agriculture to farmers hereabouts. He also built a farmhouse here which still stands today called “Carver House” (now known as Old Stone Barn). On October 25th 1907 - just shy of 100 years after President George Washington's inauguration - Congressman Edward Moseley arrived in Baraboo onboard USS Maine during what would be America's first overseas tour as Commander-in-Chief under Constitution Fleet Commanders Admiral David Dixon Porter and Commodore John Rodgers Jr.. Representative Moseley paid tribute to then Governor John Knopp who had hosted him at his summer home in Racine while visiting family members back East before continued travel on USS Maine onward to Boston Harbor on November 5th 1907 only days after America's victory over Spain at Manila Bay that ended American control over Philippines Islands! Mosesley also recollected meeting with Mayor Jens Axelsen who personally congratulated him upon returning before offering some refreshments for congressmen on board ship when they disembarked into Port Arthur later that day! One hundred years later on October 25th 2007 - just shy of 100 years since President George Washington's inauguration - representatives from all 50 states plus Dade County convened in downtown Green Bay for “An Evening With Presidents” marking America’s bicentennial year including Governors Gary Locke (D), Jeb Bush (R) & Scott Walker (R) among others during ceremonies open to the public inside Waukesha Masonic Temple where approximately 4500 people attended including many children enjoying circus performances by clowns wearing special rubber costumes created especially for that day by company president Roy Berryhill grandson of founder Roy Berryhill himself!
The first European settlers in the area were French fur traders who came to the region in the early 17th century. The first permanent settler was Nicholas Morin, a Canadian farmer, who arrived in 1763. By 1847, there were over 100 people living in Baraboo. The town began to grow rapidly after Congress opened the United States Patent Office in 1854 and began granting land patents. In 1857, Baraboo incorporated as a village. The population of Baraboo reached 1,500 by 1890. Shortly thereafter, the railroad was built through the town and it became an important agricultural center with production of hay and wheat crops supplemented by coal mining and other businesses. In 1924, Baraboo voters ratified a municipal bond issue that authorized spending $4 million for improvements to highways, schools and city services including construction of a new library and fire hall. This investment paid off as Baraboo saw rapid growth during its post-World War II years. In recent decades, the town has experienced steady growth with jobs being created both locally and out of town
