The history of firearms in Baraboo, Wisconsin began with the founding of the village on July 4, 1836. The first gun was a rifle made by Blacksmith Gabriel Cooley. The first ammunition was shot from a shotgun. By 1840, there were six guns in the village and twelve shotguns. In 1851, John Durnbaugh built the first post office in town. In 1865, Isaac Cook opened the first mercantile business in town. In 1868, George Wills bought land for a sawmill and built a grist mill on what is now known as Sixty-fifth Street East. The mill operated until about 1903 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1892, Jno. Kapp acquired title to 640 acres of land east of town and started to build an cotton gin and other mills on it. He named his property “Baraboo” after Baraboo County, Wisconsin where he lived at the time. The first store opened in Baraboo in 1896 named “Kapp’s Emporium” which lasted until 1899 when it closed because of competition from larger stores opening up around town at that time. In 1907, Prentice Webb founded Webb Machine & Tool Company which became one of the largest machine shops in America during its early yearsproducing everything from typewriters to tractors during World War I and II He also founded Webb Brothers Elevator Works which manufactured elevators for businesses throughout North America . In 1927 he sold all his interests including Webb Machine & Tool Company to Hernan Beck Company who continued to produce machines and elevator parts until 2003 when they discontinued production altogether due to declining demand

Baraboo is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census and 1,778 at the 2013 estimate. It is the seat of Baraboo County. The first permanent English settlement in what is now Baraboo was established by Captain John Cowdery in 1792, during the British occupation of Canada. He named his new land "Baraboo", after one of his Indian friends, Ba-rà-bōn (the Bear). In 1836, Samuel Augustus McCormick settled here; he had been appointed Superintendent of Agriculture for the Great Lakes region by President Andrew Johnson. The town was platted in 1857 by John Sibley and Moses Kilgore on land that had been bought from the Pottawatomie people on Mount Pleasant Creek. Sibley renamed it Baraboo after himself and two other fellow settlers—George Haggerty and Caleb Wright—and laid out a town square with two schools, a sawmill, three churches, an opera house and four stores on Main Street near where Waukesha Avenue meets First Street today. The first post office opened in 1858; it was moved to its present location near Union Depot in 1861 because transportation then was inadequate for such large populations traveling long distances for goods or visiting family members back home. In 1886–87 General Motors built a car factory here adjacent to Main Street; it closed down in 1978 but left behind a number of contributing buildings including an engine plant (now part of Chrysler) and parts storage facilities1 Today only traces remain from that era: several small brick buildings on State street just east of US Highway 12 across from Crosstown Center mall which once housed GM's engineering department; as well as another building on South Third Street between Second Avenue and I-94 just south of Walmart store2

Baraboo is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Baraboo were the Menominee Indians and they arrived there around 1750 from Michilimackinac Island near Detroit, Michigan. The area that is now Baraboo was fur territory of the Potawatomi Indians until 1803 when it became part of the United States. The first post office in Baraboo was established on February 14, 1837, by James Fenton and his wife Nancy Gist. In 1854, a canal was built through town and named for General Philip Sheridan (1779-1859), American commander during the Mexican War who had helped win that war for Mexico. In 1865, Governor Julius Stevens granted land to farmers in exchange for goods they would provide to help build up military defense against possible Indian attacks on their villages along Lake Superior (now Superior National Forest). The village of Baraboo began as a cluster of log cabins called Harmony Grove where farm families gathered around a fire every evening to bake their goods and trade goods with other communities across this vast region including Fort Snelling and Green Bay. Over time, many farms were moved away from downtown due to growing population density or changed cultivation methods which caused soil exhaustion or deterioration which led to erosion problems; however some iconic buildings such as First Methodist Episcopal Church still stand todayondside in what used to be an open field surrounded by suburban homes dating back to the early 20th century The name "Baraboo" comes from two Ottawa River words meaning "place where abashed salmon run." This naming may have been related because one day locals found abashed fish scales lying on the ground outside an old cabin near present day East Side Drive and decided that this must be where barks came from since salmon spawn upstream during spawning season according to local legend In 1870 Isaac Sears opened his grocery store at 121 E St., just south of downtown . Sears's store soon became known as "The Big Store". By 1910 most businesses had closed down except for three general stores: Waring & Sons Hardware, Jensens Drug Store and Cooks Meat Market which continued operation until 1984 when it merged with Super 8 Motels Corporation In 1925 Doctor John Snyder opened his practice at 226 S Main Street which became known as Snyder's General Hospital In 1951 Dr John Snyder retired after more than 50 years serving patients at Snyder's General Hospital
