In 1907, one of the first organizations to promote firearm safety was formed in Baraboo, called the Rifle and Pistol Club of Wisconsin (RPWC). This group helped create regulations surrounding firearms use inWisconsin and set up safety courses for local residents who wished to learn how to operate their firearms safely. RPWC also published an annual magazine entitled Gun Safety that provided tips on safe gun handling and storage practices for both individuals and businesses. The First World War led to increased interest in firearms ownership inBarabooandtheRPWCwas reborn as the NRA-Wisconsin Gun Owners Federation (GOF). GOF worked with state legislators to pass legislation regulating firearm possession and use within Wisconsin during the war years; this included creating new licensing requirements for firearm owners, increasing funding for gun control programs, and limitingFirearmownersrightstobeararms within their homes or businesses without prior consent from government officials. Baraboo is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Richland County. The population was 10,816 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the Menomonee River near its confluence with the Fox River. The first European settlers in Baraboo were James Kapp and George Hargrave, who arrived from Maryland in 1814. They built a log cabin on what is now State Street and named it Kapp's Grove after themselves and their friend, James Kapp, Sr., also from Maryland. A post office was established in Baraboo in 1818, and early residents included Ebenezer Morse, his brother-in-law David Rice (the husband of Lucy Mason), John Wickersham (whose family had settled around Green Bay before moving to Baraboo), Isaac Newton (a Quaker who had been born in England), Nicholas Biddle (of Philadelphia) and Levi Coffin (of New York). In 1837, John Goodrich erected a gristmill on what is now Main Street; he named it Goodrich's Mills after himself and his son John Goodrich Jr., both natives of Plymouth Township, Connecticut. In 1863, baron Augustus Herrmann donated land to create a public square in downtown Baraboo; this square remains today as Park Square. In 1865, Othmar Neumann founded the Milwaukee Journal newspaper here; it still uses Park Square as its headquarters today. The first railroad station in Baraboo was built on what is now State Street by General Julius Custer during his trip upriver for an attack against Cheyenne Indians near present day West Allis; Custer called it "Herrmann's Station." In 1892–93, local businessmen formed the Wisconsin Central Railroad Company to build a line between Milwaukee and Chicago via Baraboo; construction began but failed due to financial problems。 It reopened in 1903 as part of the Great Western Railway System。 On July 1st 1912 President Woodrow Wilson delivered remarks at Fond du Lac Methodist Church regarding American entry into World War I which caused extensive damage to property along Main Street.; many people lost their homes during that war including resident James Kapp Sr.. On October 9th 1915 approximately 20% of all munitions production within America came from Camp Randall Ammunition Plant located just south of town along Highway 452; most notably “Titanium” bullets which were used extensively by World War II combatants such as USAAF pilots flying over Germany during Operation Varsity . shortly afterwards another ammunition plant opened up about 5 miles to the east known as White Sands Ammunition Plant which produced high explosive rounds for artillery use during WWII . As technology changed so too did military requirements leading to new armaments being developed here such As: Anti-tank guided missiles systems such as M1A1 Abrams tanks etc… And currently we have Landmine Detection/ Countermeasures Technology Center(LMDTC) operational here under Operational Control Of United States Army First Infantry Division
