The fight began when three men - John Thornton, James Butler and George Armstrong - were fighting for control of a piece of land near what is now Waukesha County. It lasted approximately five hours and resulted in two fatalities.
Baraboo, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area and its county seat is Milwaukee. The name of Baraboo derives from the Potawatomi word bara-wagonee meaning "green land". In 1824, John Lawler built a log cabin on what later became the corner of State and Washington Streets in Baraboo. He named his settlement after his brother-in-law, David Barron, who had come to this region in 1819 as an Indian trader with William Jennings Bryan and others looking for a fur trade route through Michigan Territory. In 1827, David Barron donated land to build a school and church in Baraboo – which was dedicated on October 14th of that year by Bishop James Higginson. In 1830 John Lawler sold his claim to George Ballou for $5 per acre; Ballou named it Slippery Rock Township (now White Earth Township). In 1836, Jonas Solliday founded the first post office in Baraboo when he received mail from Fort Snelling through Jens Jacobsen. On January 8th of that year, Solliday opened Post Office No 2 at present day's intersection of State and Washington Streets – serving as its first public address until 1865 when it moved to its current location near the old bank building on State Street. The village core began to form around 1850 when settlers arrived from Kewaunee County led by Peter Gossett Sr., one of Gossett's sons who had married Sarah Thomson into a family owning about forty acres (16 hectares) east of today's downtown core along with several houses located at Second Street NE outside today’s High School boundaries. At various points during this period there were five churches: First Baptist Church (1850), United Presbyterian Church (1851), Methodist Episcopal Church (1853), German Lutheran Church & Sunday School House (1855), Swedish Lutheran Church & Sunday School House (1856). . . . By 1860 there were over two hundred residents living within city limits alone! A municipal election held on November 3rd, 1861 resulted in the creation of Baraboo Municipal Corporation with Wm Haggerty as Mayoralty President/Councilor/School Superintendent; Abram Fenton as Treasurer; Geo Aiken as Clerk; Jobn Buford as Seaman; Hiram Cobb as Laborer; Elijah Nolen Assemani Assemani as Carpenter/Fitter/Builder etc.; all under one roof! On July 1st, 1889 General MILLER purchased Townsite #1 comprising all property southward including Lot #2 adjoining Lot #1 forming what is now called Milton Park southeast side of Center Road between First Avenue NE & Third Street NE - becoming their new permanent home! miller built their beautiful Mansion here today complete with fine Arts & Crafts style architecture dating back to 1840 still standing! Today’s Milton Park features lovely stone driveways and sidewalks leading up to massive entrances flanked by high arched porticos terminating in projecting turrets completed circa 1895 incorporating some remnants from earlier buildings including Early American Style porches featuring louvered dormers -all interior walls are covered except for original plaster ceilings which remain beautifully intact!

Baraboo, Wisconsin is a small town in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 25,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Elyria, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village had a population of 6,471 in 2000. The first people to live in what is now Baraboo were the Potawatomi and Menomonee Indians. In 1836, Swedish immigrants moved from Västergötland County, Sweden to what is now Baraboo and founded a farm there. In 1839, Methodists began worshiping here and built a church and school. A post office was established here in 1842. In 1850, United States forces burned down the Swedish farmstead while retreating from Canada during the American Civil War; as a result of this event, many Swedes left Baraboo for new homes around that time. In 1865-1866, Waukesha County was created from portions of Milwaukee County; as a result of this change, Baraboo became within Waukesha County limits when it was incorporated into that county on July 1st of that year. On October 16th of that year (1912), an act by then-Governor John Chauncey designated Village No 4 as the seat of government for all rural areas within Waukesha County; as such it remains its current location today despite having no municipal charter extant until 1924 (the village charter granted by Chauncey specifically exempted Village No 4 from incorporation). It wasn’t until 1925 though when Village No 4 took on its full municipal name – “Baraboo” – after being approved by state legislators during an Act Of The Legislature session held at State House #2 (now known as City Hall) in Madison Heights; with this action taking place just one day shy of one hundred years since its establishment as aVillage! On December 15th 1929 (the same day that Interstate 94 opened up to traffic), Village No 4 experienced one of its most pivotal moments when members representing various businesses within the community applied to have their names engraved onto highway markers located near downtown Waukesha which would serve as both tourist attractions and transportation hubs for local residents/ commuters alike! This application went through successfully but unfortunately due to budget constraints not all applications were honored so throughout much of those early years only street numbers remained stenciled on highway markers instead of our familiar village names! In recent years however more recently some street signs have been replaced with digital displays depicting different aspects or events associated with our historical namesake including bobcats playing poker outside Club Quarters during Lombardi weekend!, etc.) Although currently without any street numbers directly adjacent thereto they are still easily accessible via Google Earth using Street View Data courtesyof UW-Milwaukee's Transportation Research Center .)
