Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Stout Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Ashwaubenon" comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "place where there are no trees." The first settlers in the area were Frenchmen who came to what is now Ashwaubenon in 1834. They named their land after Mount Ashwagandha, an mountain near Montreal that they thought would offer protection from Native Americans. In 1836, the United States government offered to buy all of present-day Douglas and Jo Daviess counties if the people of these counties agree to move to Indian Territory and becomepees (a reservation). The people of both towns voted not to move and remained in their own towns. In 1846, a large group of Germans began arriving in what is now Ashwaubenon from Green Bay. They started a small farm with some land around what is now Old Market Square and built a few houses around it. Because the Germans did not have any Clear Creek water rights and because they could not sell their property, they had to build wells which made them very rich early on in their settlement. In 1851, John Prentice founded Prentice Paper Company on Wauwatosa's east side with some raw materials he brought over from Canada by boat freight. This company became one of the largest paper companies in America before it went bankrupt during World War II. The townspeople built many buildings for Prentice Paper Company including a mill building that still stands today and several other mills which also remain standing today including one that was used as the city hall until it was destroyed in 1979. Other early businesses include J & E Friesen brewery which was open for about 60 years before closing down during Prohibition; Chilton furniture store which operated until 1957; Goudreau's grocery store which opened its doors on October 6th, 1907; First National Bank; Post Office/Mail House (now home of Northwestern Mutual); Masonic Lodge No 2 (still active); Father Divine Catholic church (demolished 1985) andashwabenoontownlibrary.(closed 1984) There were also several stores located near downtown such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Jiffy Lube Oil & Gas Ivey's Drug Store Inc., Hometown Hardware Stores Inc., Applebees Pizza Restaurant(closed 1990), Moose Jaw Creamery(closed 1993), Dairy Queen(closed 1988) among others

He built a log cabin on land that he donated to the township and named it Hecker's Landing after his father-in-law, George Hecker Sr.. In 1830, John Denny set up shop near what is now downtown Ashwaubenon and began shipping goods from his farmstead downriver to Chicago via steamboats on the Racine River. This traffic helped support Denny’s business until1849 when navigation improvements made by Lieutenant Jonathan Hammond improved water transportation available from Superior County upstream to Boston throughpresent day Appleton Rapids

Ashwaubenon is a town in and the county seat of Ashwaubenon County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,741 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what is now Ashwaubenon County was John Stephenson in 1834. He located along the Wabash River. The first post office in the county was established in 1835. In 1861, when Wisconsin became a state, Ashwaubenon County was organized from part of Milwaukee County. It remained an open-air township until 1925. The first schools were built in 1865 on land donated by Mrs. Anna Lothrop (daughter of Daniel Lothrop). In 1870, voters passed a referendum asking for school funding without limits on acreage or building costs; this led to establishment of four high schools: one for boys and three for girls. In 1917, voters approved adding a fifth high school; this gave rise to the present day Ashwaubenon Community Schools system (ACS) which includes 11 high schools and two middle schools
