Ashwaubenon is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 6,451 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Ashwaubenon and Hudson are also located in Douglas County. Ashwaubenon is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settlers to what is now Ashwaubenon were Quakers who arrived in 1793 from Pennsylvania. They built their first cabin on the present site of town in 1818. The town name originated with one of the early settlers, John Aspinwall, who named it after his home village, Ashwabenonee on Long Island in New York State. In 1836, a group of pioneers led by Elijah Houghton established a log schoolhouse and store near the present site of town; this became the nucleus around which modern day community development took form. In 1875, butchers Isaac Ziegler and Jesse Selby opened an animal market that continued to operate until 1906 when it burned down; this event helped spur activity within the fledgling community for several years before finally shutting down completely due to lack of business competition. Two important events within Ashwaubenon's post-completion history included First World War veterans returning home from overseas service bringing with them new ideas about democracy and self-reliance as well as a new crop variety developed by George Fenton called "Fenton's" Crimson Russetatoes; both initiatives had far-reaching consequences for local society and economy during the 1920s through 1930s when unemployment rates reached unprecedented levels residents working long hours simply could not keep up with demand. After many years of experimentation over time Park tractors began arriving into use beginning among locals as early as 1928 while electric lights were introduced just prior to World War II when heavy industry shifted away leaving most businesses closed even though prices kept rising due to postwar deflationary forces In 1948 fire destroyed most stores including those operated by Ziegler & Selby yet again starting a pattern that continues today where few if any businesses remain open despite high prices reflecting relatively low production values These days there are only a few small retailers remaining inside downtown while most services have moved away concentrated along Wauwatosa Avenue outside including all three pharmacies currently operating under one roof plus two convenience stores plus six restaurants including four chainsaws Now it should be noted someletal remains found quite recently adjacent to airport runway linked backfired vandalism attempts by local kids resulting in very high insurance premiums levied against village

The village started as a small post office on October 3, 1854, with thirteen residents. By 1860, it had grown to thirty-four residents. Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin was founded in 1854 by the Ashwaubenon band of Native Americans. The town was named for the stream that flowed through it. The first settler in Ashwaubenon was John Phelps. In 1855, the town had a population of just 10 people. By 1860, the town had grown to about 150 people. By 1870, Ashwaubenon had a population of over 500 people. Thetown experienced some modest growth until World War II when it grew rapidly due to its proximity to military bases and manufacturing plants. After the war, the town slowed down and declined in popularity until the late 1990s when it began to experience renewed growth thanks to its unique history and attractions.
