Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and is located on the shore of Lake Michigan. The population was 2,065 at the 2010 census. The name Ashwaubenon comes from an Algonquian word meaning "place where the Muskrat live." The first settler in what is now Ashwaubenon was Nicholas Doherty in 1836. In 1841, Alexander Keith came to the area and built a cabin on walnut Creek. The town was platted in 1851 by JB McClure and WN White firm under the name of Pequot Lakeside. It became part of Racine County when it was organized on April 15, 1857. On January 1, 1860, Ashwaubenon had a post office with Ahtna as its first mail carrier. In 1870, Minnesota-born Andrew Jenson bought land within the current boundaries of Ashwaubenon and began to build a log cabin there called "Jenson's Cabin". He named it after his uncle Johnathan Jensen who had settled in that area about 1840. By 1888, both Andrew Jenson and his son Neil were dead; their home still stands today but has been converted into apartments.
