In 1835, Frenchman Michel Charette came to America and established himself as one of the most successful holstermakers in this country. His company manufactured holsters for both pistols and rifles (eventually becoming known as Charette & Son). Over time, Charette & Son became known for their high-quality products – both theirHolster Division and their Firearms Division being some of the best in the business at that time. In 1842, Appleton’s own Ransom Holster Company was founded by Major Christopher Ransom (later Colonel Christopher Ladd). At that time, Ransom Holster Company was one of the largest holster manufacturers in America. They continued making quality products until 1951 when they merged with another company to form Browning Armory Incorporated (BAI). Appleton, Wisconsin is a community located in the eastern part of the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin metropolitan area. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. Appleton is bordered by Sheboygan on the east, Menomonee Falls on the north, Racine on the south-west and Waukesha on the west. The first settler in what is now Appleton was John Addington who arrived in 1836. The town was platted in 1840 and named for Abraham Appelbaum, an early settler from Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1845 two brothers named Levi and Peter Perkins erected a log cabin near present day downtown Appleton to provide shelter for their horses during winter months. On July 16th of that year they were married by Rev. George Sibley at a small chapel within walking distance of their cabin. By 1850 there were twenty nine residents living in appleton with three taverns and one store providing services such as farm production, trade goods and transportation needs for settlers moving into new settlements throughout northwest Wisconsin including Racine and Menomonee Falls which had been founded by German immigrants just prior to appleton's incorporation date in 1851 Farming continued to be an important activity during this time as well as other rural economic pursuits including lumbering which became important after railroad construction began through central Wisconsin in 1857 connecting Chicago with Milwaukee In 1870 when Appleton received its charter from the state ofWisconsin it was one of twelve towns included within Racine Township . After years of growth due largely to Interstate 94 construction that bypassed town limits along Uptown Road (now Waukesha Avenue) much progress stopped until 1990 when Park East Boulevard (now Bruce Street)was built running concurrently through town boundaries creating new business districts Opportunities for retail development followed with substantial investment culminating in a high end restaurant called "The Ritz" opening across from Park East Boulevard Plaza near where current State Representative Joe Gahart lives today Appleton remains one of southeastWIst's most vibrant communities with many cultural attractions unique to its community like The Ragtime Museum open since 1978; Assembling Artisans Showcase started up again this year showcasing handcrafted items made exclusively using natural materials; Even more amazing are all those volunteer fire departments represented here like Appletons own EITC Volunteer Fire Department!
