The first gun target company in Appleton was organized on November 8th, 1895 by George Kapp and his brother-in-law, Hiram Davenport. The company manufactured metal targets that could be shot at from various distances. It was not until 1898 that gun targets became available for purchase by the public. In 1902, Obadiah Sampson established the Sampson Shooting Company in order to produce wooden targets made specifically for target practice. A brewery opened along with other businesses around 1860 and became one of the largest breweries west of the Mississippi River. In 1916 they merged with Coors Brewing Company to form American National Brewery (ANB). The company changed its name to Coors Brewing Company again in 1959 when it acquired Pabst Brewing Company (PBC) which had been founded by Samuel Adams Brewery owner Anheuser-Busch Strauss &Co.. In 1992 ANB merged with Miller Brewing Company to formMillerCoors Brewery Inc.. Today MillerCoors Brewing provides both an alcoholic beverage and Nonalcoholic Beverage product line under several brands including Blue Moon Belgian White Lager, Harpoon Ale Team Red IPA and New Belgium Pale Ale
