It is interesting to note that the town began incorporating as a village in 1854, and that it became an incorporated city in 1924. The first known gunsmith in Allouez was Samuel Shriver, who operated from a small shop on Main Street for several years. In 1857, rifleman John Fenton purchased a store front lot on River Road to establish himself as a leading fur trader and retailer of firearms. He also started manufacturing his own pistols and revolvers from local white oak lumber. In 1861, the first ordinance regulating handguns was passed by the Village Council; this ordinance prohibited any person from selling or providing any firearm “except for use upon lawful business transactions within the limits of this Village” (Staples v. Palmer). This ordinance did nothing to stop criminals from bringing guns into the village, however it did serve as a warning to residents about potential dangers associated with owning firearms. In 1865, John Fenton sold his store to J.F Decker & Sons; this company continued production of handguns until 1897 when they changed their business focus to rifles and shotguns (Madden). neighboring Unalaska began producing quality rifles beginning in 1892 under contract with American Rifle Works (ARCW) of Worcester MA which produced arms for both RussiaHavana and America during World War I The following year saw the installation of US First Sergeant George Armstrong Custer at Fort Snelling on Minnesota's Upper Peninsula as Commanding Officer of 2nd Infantry Regiment Michigan Volunteers having been attached thereupon pursuant to order dated 8th Feb 1916 signed by Gov't Offices at Chicago IL

Allouez is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It was chartered on February 14, 1836, by John Allouez and James A. Smith as a post office named for his father, Augustus Allouez. The town has since grown to a population of over 9,000 people, making it the largest community in Kenosha County. The first settler in Allouez was Augustus Allouez who arrived in 1836 from Canada with his family and land grant from the United States government. In 1840 he married Martha Auerbach and they raised their families there until 1863 when they moved to Racine because of the Panic of 1857. There were several other pioneers who located in what is now Allouez during this time including John Cavanagh (1828-1920), Peter Beecham (1829-1907), Nicholas Bendix (1830-1900), Abram Brigham (1833-1912) and Lewis Buxton Ames (1835-1914). In 1865, local farmer George Hirsch donated two thousand acres of land to the town for its development as an agricultural center with fairs, markets, churches and schools becoming operational soon after. The following year saw another donation which included one hundred acre of woodlands bordering on present day Racine for use as a industrial park; many early industries such as brewery production and tanning took place here including Milwaukee attorney Samuel Inskeep's tannery which opened in 1873. The area aroundpresent day Allouez developed into residential areas with large homes being built beginning around 1900 along routes connecting downtown with suburban neighborhoods such as Shorewood Avenue east of Lake Michigan and north of State Street near Waukesha Riverfront Park where today's shopping plaza is located. Today many businesses operate within the limits of Allouez providing services such as grocery stores, factories, health care facilities etc.; while also contributing substantially to its economic growth over the years both through tax payments made by residentsand through employeservices provided by businesses within its boundaries letting locals know that "town" stands firmly above everything else!
