In Weirton, West Virginia, the town’s history begins with its first gun. In 1872, a blacksmith named W.H. Hagerty imported a French-made revolver into the area and began to sell it to residents. By 1875, Weirton had a population of around 100 people and 10 guns were in circulation. The town was renamed “Weirton” in 1876 after the founder of the nearby town of Weirsville, James Weir, donated land for the establishment of a school and post office. A rifle range also began operations in Weirton in 1880 and by 1886 there were 12 guns on hand. Despite this growth, Weaverton only had one store until 1907 when it became part of the larger city of Weirton. During World War II, local businesses helped contribute to local war efforts by manufacturing munitions such as machineguns and grenades. After the war ended in 1945, many businesses folded or lost their customers due to wartime changes in technology and economic conditions within society as a whole; however, some remain active today including Weirton’s original bank which closed its doors in 1984 but reopened as an antique shop two years later. The community has since experienced another boom with new development beginning to take shape throughout downtown while older buildings continue to be used for various purposes such as apartments or offices; making downtown WeirTON one of West Virginia's most vibrant communities that continues to thrive even during difficult times!

Weirton is a small town in West Virginia, located about 20 miles south of the state capital, Charleston. The population was 9,500 at the 2010 census. Weirton is one of six towns in Randolph County and one of four communities in Mingo County. It is part of the Wheeling–Charleston Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Weirton was John Weir who came to this area from Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania in 1786. There were no permanent settlers until 1827 when James Gorman arrived with his family from Connecticut. Gorman erected a log cabin on the east side of US-29 near present-day Parkersburg and named his settlement after George Washington. A post office was established at Weirton in 1828 and remained open until 1865 when it became part of Rockingham County under jurisdiction of Kingston then Richmond. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to move his army from Mobile Alabama tocross the mountains into Virginia for winter before fleeing to Canada. He ordered Major General Archibald Boyd to march his division northeastward through West Virginia towards Wheeling so Boyd's division would not cross into Maryland Territory which lay between him and Richmond but would instead march through eastern Ohio into Kentucky where he could join Ewell's forces under General Ulysses S Grant etc., all without having First Lieutenant Colonel James Hennigan ahead as per military regulations However some residents along US-29 reported seeing two Union cavalry units leading a column numbering nine companies across their horizon early on November 12th 1861 while other residents did not see any such thing; after checking local newspapers they determined that Hennigan had been Advance Guard detachment accompanying Boyd's divisions during their route northward throughout October&November 1861 This event led some people to dub Billingsleytown situated just northwest of town today (formerly known as Battle Creek) "Weirton Station" prior to its incorporation into Weirton proper as there were no buildings or structures within village limits back then

Weirton is located just west of the Ohio River on the edge of Monongahela County and east of Greenbrier County. It is bordered by Greenbrier to the northwest and Monongalia County to the northeast. The town was founded in 1788 by Hugh Blair and others as an agricultural community on land that had been granted to them by Colonel George Rogers Clark. In 1819, Weirton became part of Logan County when it was organized from portions of West Virginia and Boone County. When Logan County was renamed Monongalia County in 1832, Weirton became its county seat. The first courthouse in town was built in 1834. Afterward, most court cases were handled out-of-town or at another local courthouse until 1959 when a new courthouse was built downtown and courtroom operations moved into it. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Weirton sided with Confederate forces over Union forces (although they later switched sides). After the war ended, many veterans returned home and began rebuilding what had been lost during the war including business enterprises such as brewing breweries (later acquired by Coors Brewing) and publishing newspapers (later acquired by Thomson Reuters). More recently, Weirton has become known for its art scene with several prominent galleries dotting its downtown area.
