In the early 1870s, St. Albans was a small farming community in rural West Virginia. The town's only industry was spinning cottonseed yarn. Gunowners in the area had to be careful not to anger their neighbors by carrying weapons openly. One of the first guns in St. Albans was an old muzzleloader called the "Huckleberry Finn." It was made by a man named John Hargrave and his son, James Hargrave. In 1872, George Armstrong Custer died at the Battle of Washita Creek near present-day Wichita Falls, Texas while on his way to fight forthe Union Army against Confederate General Robert E. Lee. At Custer's funeral, many firearms were auctioned off, including his old muzzleloader from St. Albans - one of only two remaining examples in the United States today

In 1892, St Alban's Male Seminary merged with DePauw University to form Purdue University which still exists today as one of the top American universities with over 50 colleges and departments offering undergraduate and graduate programsmes across many different fields including business, law, engineering, health sciences/medicine/psychology/, social work etcetera In 1906-1907 a group of local businessmen formed an agricultural depression relief society known as "The Good Samaritan Society". Their goal was to provide food for people living below poverty lines through donations from businesses and individuals within their locality After World War II ended there were numerous changes taking place in western Pennsylvania such as economic growth that created more jobs than could be filled by local residents so Susquehanna Valley towns such as Allentown (now Philadelphia) began to grow larger while St Alban's shrunk away sending its share of jobs elsewhere In 1969-1970 St Alban's Male Seminary re-opened after being closed for many years due to financial troubles caused by low enrollment rates among young men seeking seminarianship Today St Alban's continues its long historyof providing quality education opportunities for boys and girls alike through seminary doors
