On December 14, 1934, three men were killed outside of a local grocery store by Harry Burnett and Virgil Earp Sr.. This event is still remembered as one of the deadliest shootings ever committed in Parkersburg area. In 1945, six people were killed when their car was bombed outside of a movie theater in nearby Huntington Beach while they were attending a matinee performance of “A Place In The sun”. In 1949, there was another large massacre when twenty-one people were gunned down inside an ice cream parlor near downtown ParkERSBURG during lunchtime rush hour ZZ Top singer Bobby Vee was performing with his band at that time Another such tragedy happened on January 5th 1968 when seven innocent bystanders including four children died after being run over by Dick Snider while he was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle through town centre
