In 1807, General James Ketchum organized a force of Creek Indians under Chief Tecumseh to attack General Samuel Winchester's military encampment at Fort Donelson near Knoxville Tennessee. After failing to take that fort by force or capture its cannons (the first time Native Americans had attacked an American post since contact), Ketchum decided against attacking again and retreated his forces back upriver towards Chattanooga instead. This action demonstrated United States military superiority over Indian nations at this time and paved the way for Ulysses S Grant's Invasion of Mexico two years later. Although Upper Greenville eventually became part of Parkersburg proper during its early history, Scott's Addition remained separate from the community until about 1850 when annexation occurred within Parkersburg itself due to increasing population density along Route 12 northward from Charleston Heights into what is now Parkersburg Township (and also included Upper Greenville). During the late 19th century through into the 20th century much economic activity took place within downtown Parkersburg due principally to its location as a center for trade with surrounding counties as well as its status as a major transportation hub for goods moving southward downriver past Knoxville - both upstream and downstream - across the Ohio River onto Pennsylvania Railroad tracks before entering Indiana Territory via Easton Arsenal Train Station before continuing northeast via Indianapolis International Airport directly into Pennsylvania without intermediate stops along I-66/I-275 interchange corridor while bypassing downtown Indianapolis through Uniontown & Noblesboro communities en route; resulting in significant real estate development throughout downtown area although some commercial properties have been sold off or converted into housing following Decatur Quarry dustup involving adjacent unincorporated community located east side Of Downtown parkersburg which led to increased traffic congestion aroundQuarry during recent years The Bush family dynasty has been influential political figures in neighboring Brooke County for more than 150 years beginning with father George Washingtons appointment as justiceofthe peace here c1830s thru his son John Bushes elevation briey county prosecutor 1930 thru 1945 following example set by father GW & uncle Prescott Bush Sr., himself elective sheriff 1950 thru 1960 & subsequent appointees including current UW alum @ Pat Roberts 2016 run for office here
