Gun protection history in Parkersburg, West Virginia began with the founding of the town in 1881. The first gun was a Spencer shotgun that was used by the Post Office Department to protect themselves from Indians. The town purchased their first firearms on November 13th, 1882. Between 1882 and 1903, Parkersburg had over 100 guns purchased and kept in storage. The first handgun purchase took place on December 9th, 1903 when Mrs. Ladds bought a Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver from Sells Bros., located at 601 Second Street. In 1911, Parkersburg adopted its own ordinance restricting handgun ownership to citizens who were 21 years of age or older. Gun manufacturers Seattle Arms Company and Winchester Repeating Arms Company donated shotguns for use as law enforcement vehicles in Parkersburg. In 1934, Parkersburg passed an ordinance establishing city limits which included all of present-dayWest Virginia except Jefferson County and portions of Monongalia County (the current state of West Virginia). This ordinance made it illegal for anyone other than residents within the city limits to own a firearm or possess any ammunition without a license from the City Clerk’s office. As a result of this ordinance, gun violence decreased drastically in Parkersburg between 1934 and 1984. In 1990, West Virginia repealed its ban on handguns effective January 1st, 1991 due to public opposition theretoageineas part of efforts to reduce crime throughout the state during the 1990s military draft era.[1] As a result of this repeal there have been an increasing number of shootings taking place throughout eastern West Virginia outside city limits since then as people have obtained new firearms without having to go through regulatory processes established prior to 1990[2]. Finally On July 19th 2018 Mayor McDowell announced that they would be seeking permission from ATF to sell assault weapons within the city limits; however this has yet to happen

The Industrial Revolution began in 1875 AD and led to increased demand for firearms around the world. This change caused a huge increase in firearm production which resulted in more accidents (Lambkin). Additionally, people started using firearms for different purposes beyond just hunting and protection instead of just carrying around traditional spears or knives (Higgins). The development of machineguns gave humans the ability to kill large numbers of people at once with minimal injury or fatalities (Wade-Davis). Machineguns became very popular after World War I when they were used against troops on battlefields across Europe (Kellerhoffer). However, machineguns are not always safe when used commercially outside Of combat settings where there is high potential for accidental fire (Langston-Greenberg). Throughout most human history there has been some form of gun control legislation passed that has aimed at reducing gun violence. One example is The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution which protects Americans from “the rightof self-defense”(Fletcher)). Some countries like Australia have strict gun control policies while others like Canada tolerates some restrictions but still allows access to handguns(Norman)). In spite of these attempts at controlling guns through legislation, shootings continueevery day across America due largelyto misunderstandings about firearms(Hechtman)).

By 1860, Parkersburg had over 100 businesses including a bank, several grocery stores, a post office, schools (including one for African Americans), an industrial park containing five foundries and eleven cotton ginners, two churches (one Baptist/ Methodist) and six residences. During World War II, Parkersburg became one of the largest centers for munitions production in America thanks to its proximity to government factories such as those at Huntington Army Ammunition Plant and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Works Number 1.. However by 1945 almost all manufacturing had ceased due to economic decline along with many jobs lost throughout Appalachia which saw large declines in population throughout much of postwar America. In 1949 Parkerstown residents voted 3-2 to make themselves independent from Webster County when local officials declined to allow them to join what they considered were more important counties within their region. However since then there has been increasing efforts by locals to regain control over their municipality through means such as referendum or City Council meetings where recent ordinances are debated before being passed without opposition or amendment Today Parkersburg remains largely unchanged with a focus on tourism - its numerous historical sites have made it a popular spot for visitors both from within West Virginia as well as from surrounding states such as Virginia; additionally there are several shopping malls located within walking distance of downtown that offer various types of retail experiences not possible elsewhere in Appalachia

In 1881, a group of men from Parkersburg, West Virginia founded the Parkersburg Republican Party. The party's first president was John P. Morrill. In 1912, the Parkersburg News-Gazette became the first newspaper in Parkersburg to be published daily. In 1916, Parkersburg had its first municipal election and the town's first mayor was James Fenton. From 1920 until 1958, Parkersburg had a one-member city council system.
